Map Men - Episode 13 ready to watch NOW!!!

Here it is - the very newest episode of Map Men, 24 hours before everyone else!

This one combines three of our favourite passions - maps, history, AND linguistics! So there’s bound to be something in here to tickle your onion, even if you’re only interested in one out of those three topics.

Thanks by the way to everyone who’s bought something from our merch store! We're overwhelmed by the overwhelming support, so thank you very VERY much indeed! Hope you're all enjoying those mugs for drinking delicious tea/coffee/cocoa/bovril*.

Don’t forget, you get a 10% discount if you use the discount code “PATREON”. If you’re very very lucky, you could order today and it just might still arrive in time for Christmas!

So, that’s it for 2020! The next Map Men won’t be until next year, which, this month, is just next month, so at least you don’t have to wait a whole year til next year now. And I don’t know about you, but I think this year’s gone on just a bit too long enough already - just like this Patreon post.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!! Enjoy!!!!!

Jay

* I don't think I've ever actually had bovril, but I reckon it's exactly the sort of thing I'd really like!

P.S. I've just updated the link with a slightly improved version without some of the audio glitches. So, if you left a comment, and now it's gone, that's why.

Loved this episode - thank you Jay

I remembered I'm a patron so I thought I'd drop in and say this is one of my favourite episodes of Map Men. I'm big on historical stuff like this, and it's stayed with me since I now hear a place name and think "Hm I wonder what the root of that name is". Like Ullapool and Liverpool, they're quite far away and in areas I assume have different cultural influences, so do their names have the same root or not? I haven't bothered to find out yet, but it was a fun thought. Equally fun is applying it to where I live. Even though I could have guessed that a placename in London has Anglo-Saxon roots, it still connects me more to it to see it laid out on a screen like that. Looking forward to the rest of the series :)

How much of your audience is from Britain?

Speaking as an American, "Yeehaw" and "Darn Tootin'" can only be pronounced properly in the same conversation if they are punctuated by wildly firing your pistols into the air. After "Buckaroo" you must also toss your hat upwards, though you are allowed to change the inflection by instead tossing your hat to the ground directly beneath you and hopping up and down on it.

I don't require them. Thanks for checking!

Oh no problem at all! Had no ideas you didn't have then completed yet.

This episode was darn tootin'

That instantly became one of my favorite Map Men episodes of all time. It was both hilarious AND it advanced me in my goal of faking an English heritage. Jay, you deserve a hat tip for Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. I can't give points for accuracy, but holy crap that was awesome. Liam Dutton would be proud. Excellent reference, too.

If you rely on captions, let me know, and from now on I'll make sure captions are finished before publishing here on Patreon.

Jay Foreman

Hi Justin. Sorry the captions aren't finished yet. It takes me a few hours to do the captions, and it's always the last job I do. I'll finish those today in time for the official publishing at 4pm. Thanks for your patience! :)

Wow, suddenly the day seems to be going a lot better!

Frome was the inspiration for Hot Fuzz. Great video as always!

FYI Jay the Closed Captions bugger off at 00:58 and never return again :(
