Some aeons ago (and I mean it... This is ancient stuff!) this gentleboy here and I had a little chat.
So we were discussing some of his fantastic fics and some fanart I made about them. In particular we probably were talking about his earlier Naruto fics (of which I made some arts cause I frigging loved them) and some stories in which some boys would have fun with this automated small robots that could tape a subject in various ways and whatnot... All in all, a great concept. (that now has been made several times, but back in that day was kindda new... I meant it when I said this was long ago...)
In the midst of these chats, the idea for a variation in which Naruto got wrapped by ninja scrolls meant for it dawned.
It was meant as a silly idea that lead to this pretty rough sketches:
I don't remember if it started as a collab from the beggining or he decided to have a go at them seeing as I had no intention of finishing them. Be as it may, he did his own coloring of them back then. (Which I can't find for the life of me... It would seem Pixiv nuked it at some point.
At any rate, cut to 2022, when I just finished the 9S Swimsuit pic with a new technique (just for the fun of experimenting) more akin to airbrushing and these pics somehow cross my way. Of course Kurt Insisted on me having a go at them. So I had to obligue.
Have the HD colored versions:
Had to fix some proportions and whatnot. Also the airbrushing technique plus colored line on top (pretty close as to how I would tackle it with traditional mixed media...) is super fun to do (although quite time consuming).
Just take a look at the palete I was working with:
It was hard to keep the rendering consistent between them all (I don't even think I really managed to do so). Also, had a big issue with PS+Wacom+Windows color management, so I had to do some heavy color correction in post, which is annoying as a lot of subtleties and contrasts get messed up. But it is what it is.
Speaking of, have the original PSD files:
As a little bonus, have some experiments I did back in the day with the Clipdrop Relight tool:
I'd love to share the uncersored versions but that's a no-no on Fanbox. They will be available at DA's subscription cause that's the crazy world we live in apparently (or if I EVER get to have my Subscribestar working...)
I hope you people's enjoy this and once again,
Thanks a lot for your support!!
