2023-07-26 18:05:57 +0000 UTCSpeaking of random, I have never heard anyone, ever, mention High Spirits from 1988. Have any of you seen this? I originally only saw it because the video store literally mixed up the tapes in the containers. This happened to me with The Witches, too. Best accidents ever! Anyway.. It’s a… spooky comedy? A hotel in Ireland set in a decrepit castle tries to boost business by pretending there are ghosts in the castle, but then they discover there actually is. The thing is, I don’t understand the lack of cult status because, the cast? THE CAST: Peter O’Toole (chewing the scenery like a BOSS), Daryl Hannah, Steve Guttenberg, Liam Neeson, Beverly D’Angelo, Jennifer Tilly (totally Tillying here), Peter Gallagher, Liz Smith (hilarious), Connie Booth (of Fawlty Towers fame), etc. The wacko absurdity and melodramatic silliness reminds me a bit of Clue and Murder by Death. And directed by Neil Jordan for heaven’s sake. It’s one of those 27% rotten tomatoes, 91% actual people love it type movies, you know? It is straight up funtimes and I strongly recommend.
