New Mechanics and a (new) look for Amy

Hey, hey, people,

How's it going, dear Ogre Pimps and MF Avatars? It's been a few days since our last post here, and even longer since we dedicated a proper text update for our cherished Patron Pimps and Avatars moving forward.

The reason is simple: we’ve been working non-stop on the upcoming version, which will likely be titled Final Orginity v0.4.3. While this version won't feature massive narrative advances (though we do have a few surprises for you), it will introduce several significant updates in terms of mechanics.

Today we're here to share some of the new mechanics and deep changes we’re implementing in Final Orginity, which you'll start to see in the upcoming versions:

Corruption Levels

In recent weeks, we've been experimenting with some mechanics offered by RPG Maker MZ that we had never considered before.

One of these is the level system, which we had completely ignored because we don’t plan to introduce traditional RPG Maker combat into the story (at least for now).

Well, now there will be a Corruption Level (or C lvl) system, which will increase (and never decrease) as Amy engages in more or less "corrupt" actions. We’re setting specific levels and ensuring that certain events (or playstyle tendencies) will cause Amy’s corruption level to rise—or remain unchanged.

This system will allow us to tie certain quests to Amy’s corruption level. For instance, some missions might require a highly corrupted Amy to complete, while others might be tailored for those who maintain a low or even zero corruption level (the so-called "virgin route"). Whether high or low, the idea is for corruption levels to have meaningful long-term consequences.

Interacting with Closets and Drawers

This new mechanic will be a real step up for Final Orginity as an RPG. On one hand, it will make a lot of objects interactive, so the game won’t just be about talking to NPCs. On the other hand, starting with v0.4.3, Amy will be able to interact with all the closets and drawers she encounters throughout the game.

Many of these will be locked... not all will contain items (give us time to enrich this feature), but you can expect to find more loose coins, some new lore, and maybe a few jokes or Easter eggs.

Day Segmentation

In the last few weeks, Salamin has been playing Zelda: Majora's Mask, and it’s been a huge source of inspiration. It’s a deeply complex RPG with a well-thought-out narrative segmented by days.

Like in Majora's Mask, the idea is for certain events to happen no matter what, whether or not the player is at the right place at the right time. That’s why we’ve decided to include a message at the start of each day in the story to let players know what day Amy is on.

Of course, this will require us to update the walkthrough to reflect these changes (along with the others).

A New Amy on the Horizon

Finally, here’s a change that’s more long-term. As you know, SpaceSandwich, our lead artist, is always open to improving the art and overall experience of the game. Part of their daily work on Final Orginity involves reworks. And now could be Amy's turn.

"The thing about Amy's portrait is that it was the first ever drawing that got made before the game started development, And before we set her design in stone. We're too used to her now but if you look at scenes she changed a bit over time. That's why I proposed some tweaks that bring her closer to what you see in more recent scenes"

As you can see, her hair has less volume now, and her silhouette is a bit more natural. The result feels more refined. Which one do you like more? What would you change about the new Amy? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Regardless, keep in mind that this rework is a work-in-progress, and there may be further tweaks before we roll out this new look across all 220+ portraits of Amy.

Alright, peeps, that's all for today! We've got a few more changes up our sleeves, but you'll see them soon enough in the next update. We're hard at work, pushing to bring you the next Final Orginity update as soon as possible. Stay tuned— it might drop sooner than you expect.

Take care, stay happy, and we'll catch you in the next post!
