America Compared: Why Other Countries Treat Their People So Much Better

Howdy, friends! I've gotten a lot of requests to do a video covering American labor practices compared to other countries, so here it is! In this episode, I measure the US against other OECD nations (and some third-world nations) using several key metrics: "low-skilled" job compensation, vacation time, length of the work week, and paid parental leave. You can probably guess how the US compares, but it might be even worse than you expect. Hope you enjoy!

An absolutely awesome, and badly needed video, as usual. Thank you!

I live in the UK and I know a few people from the USA. Even those who identify themselves as liberal think the USA is the best, even with reference to the labour market. The brainwashing machine you have down there is fairly effective.

I have a comment about the McDonald's section: you mentioned their 21B in revenue, which anyone can rebuke by saying it's then spent on operational costs like (obviously) salaries. But you could mention the profit instead! With a quick Google search, I saw they were close to $6B in profit, which seems enormous to me. Considering a third of their revenue comes from the US, I'll extrapolate and say a third of their profit also comes from the US (probably not that simple). But that would give us $2B in profit from the US alone. I also Googled their employee count in the US which is around 200k. If they used 1 of those 2 billion in extra compensation, it would give each employee another $5k/year. That's an increase of $2.4/hour. Anyway, that's napkin math, but I thought this could be a more tangible kind of stat to expose :). Thanks again for the amazing content!

In my personal opinion the U.S. ranks last when it comes to labor practices. As we very much know the United States takes capitalism to the extreme. The U.S. government has sold this "country" out time & time again for corporate interest & capitol gain its unreal. There are so many developed countries ahead of the United States when it comes to valuing their workforce. That's why the U.S. should be ashamed of the continuous devaluing of the working class & that's what's up!!!!

I didn’t know how badly ranked the US is in every department and people act like it’s normal to live life this way

Excellent content. Aside from the deep sadness I feel about being an American citizen right now I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Besides, I was feeling that long before this brilliant video.

Alright no worries, keep us posted!! Looking forward to watching it!!

Not yet! The first one is still in pre-production. We just finally secured some funding for the series, which will let me spice it up with fancy motion graphics and sound design. It’ll be another few weeks I imagine.
