Why You Don't Actually Own Anything Under Capitalism

Howdy, friends! One of the biggest talking points used by proponents of capitalism is that "well you get to own a bunch of cool stuff." The thing is, that's not even remotely true anymore. In fact, our ability to own much of anything has decreased dramatically over the last few decades. Let's take a look at why that is. Hope you enjoy!

Very informative, much food for thought!

I agree that the terminology of "private property" as opposed to "personal property is unnecessarily confusing. As you explain, "Owning the means of production" is clearer. Maybe we as a society we can use the clearer terminology going forward? In this video you discount several of the examples that you give as "silly", and I feel that that weakens a little bit the points that you are making. You explain that not everything that is moving from owning to renting is necessarily bad but that it still is a trend. It matters more for some things than for others. The fact that for many people it is unaffordable to own something as important for their life as the house that they live in, that is a problem. Those are all very valid points. Somehow the word "silly" occasionally felt out of place for me. No worries, I do not mean to make a big deal out of this point, because it is not, just a thought that popped into my head. Thank you for the videos, well researched, informative and funny as they are!
