EARLY ACCESS: "But What Can We Do?"

Howdy, friends! Perhaps the single most common question I get asked is "what can we as individuals do to help force change?" I figured it was about time I made a dedicated video on the subject. Time to read a little theory. I hope you enjoy the video!

EARLY ACCESS: "But What Can We Do?"

The facade has been exposed to anyone that pays attention from decades ago.

You radicalized me to become a Utopian Revolutionary Optimist at age 20, three years ago! I’m excited because I haven’t watched your creations in a while. Now, I’m a delegate for Biden/Harris at the DNC convention this year and my friends are working on the party policy platform that hasn’t been updated in over a decade. I volunteer lobby Congress for the most effective bipartisan climate policies, do grassroots organizing like campaign for local democratic candidates/phone bank/etc, started my local county Young Democrats and create content about my life on social media and have big projects underway! I feel at peace and ease doing everything save the world and having fun bc girls just wanna get everyone taken care of and have fun doing it. I know our Kingdom of Heaven is within, gratitude and authenticity are two of our greatest strengths. I’m thankful for this life everyday and the power to be the change I wish to see & save the world by saving myself and my corner of the world. I understand that we must build climate resilient communities and come together in ways we never have before. The “What Can We Do” question is something I feel I already have the answer to for the foreseeable future. Let’s see what JT has to say… 😇🙌 🌎🌳🤍🕊️ I’m at 5:35 🍃 Idea: Everything someone says in an inconvenience or burden in modern society is tied to policy decisions so start conversations on civic education by asking them what their grievances are and bring it up the chain to policy, voting, and the fact that DEMOCRACY ONLY WORKS IF YOU DO! 🥳 “Exposure Literature” oh my god I fucking love it like Alexander Hamilton I’m friends with DSA and Young Republicans and Democrats. I have a slightly different mindset and approach to politics but I agree with what you’re saying and love the work that socialist organizations do. Hold the vision, hold the community love vibrations. I’m like a double agent, Prach On Earth, capitalism’s Trojan Horse 😎 Alright peace and love, much appreciation for the education 🙏🥰

I value your content. Your perspective helps to inform my own (especially because I hate reading). But I'm poor AF. I wish I could contribute more. I work at Amazon now. $16.50/hour and I am guaranteed only 12 hours a week, "flexing" to a 20 hour max. So I'm one of the millions of clogs a clog in the ever automating system to finance billionaire space tourism, in my case. If we make any attempt to unionize, we are removed. And there's simply no way to contact the other employees to discuss. April is "Earth Month," I guess. So I added some Earth Month suggestions to the "Amazon values your unique voice" board saying saving on .000000000000000001% of vinyl wrapping our packages isn't going to make up our sending Capt. Kirk to space for 4 minutes. (I just made that up, they're honestly less polite about it. I image they'll search the security cameras for the employee who posted them.) Also, there may have been some suggestions about organizing, but of course it wasn't me ...

What timing! I just finished reading What is to be Done? Thanks for another great video.

Please look up the Ponzi Papers. It was written by the man who self immolated in front of the Very public Trump trials!

I've been slogging through it, it's a really fantastic thesis but I really wish academics didn't try to make up 100 new portmanteaus every time they want to make a point. I can live with the concept of 'cloud capital'. But... It's rent. It doesn't need to be cloud rent.

Jack aka Buster

I'm in a white-collar area of the burbs filled with folks that are certain that the system works. Per the theory I have read trying to organize them is tailism and doomed to failure. My alternative is to go to another community I'm not a part of and that seems like adventurism. I feel trapped.

Puskara

I would recommend you to look up techno feudalism by yanis Varoufakis, who puts forth a thesis in his new book which explains what capitalism newest mutation is all about x

José Nikolaj Bedoya Cabezas

really glad to see the support for the channel :D

People are really asking, "What can I do without risking myself?". The answer to that is"nothing", so that is what they do.

Excellent question that needs to be addressed. A LOT of us don't live in cities but that shouldn't hinder us. I'm always trying to think of ways to describe benefits of Socialism to people around me. It helps that I look redneck Conservative. I work in construction management with a family owned company. The older field guys complain a LOT, so I try using that to talk about how different it would be if we all owned the company. But yea, outside of that I'm not sure what else to do.

Adam E Kreuz

When talking about how “when things get bad enough, a critical amount of people will rise up and fix everything” and how the Black Lives Matter protests fizzled because of lack of direction, a contrast to today’s Gaza liberation movement comes to mind. There is definitely spontaneous action happening in response to this tragedy and there are even concrete demands made in the simplest of terms. Ceasefire now. However, there’s just not enough people making noise…yet. I’ve been to several demonstrations and the experience is often watching a whole lot of people watch you while they take cell phone videos of your group chanting demands. It’s both revitalizing knowing you’re there with others who share the same frustrations and desire to see change as you do, but also disheartening coming to terms with how many people could care less what is currently happening because all they care about is enjoying their brunch.

As bad as we think our capitalist regime is now, the Russian Revolutions happened under a highly oppressive Tsarist regime. There are socialists in more authoritarian circumstances now and throughout history doing way more than we've even thought about doing. We need to stay materially focused, think creatively, and not start from a position of why we can't do something.

Lefty In Training

I feel this is a normal response and a sign that protests are growing. Is it to be expected that the more they feel consciousness rising, the more they will have to contrast it with more explicit action. While this is scary (I'm scared about it!), it can also be "positive", since it helps exposing the "democracy and freedome" facade we're in and made more people realize the truth of our condition under capitalism.

Andrea Di Napoli

But how do we organize now that capitalism has become more clearly authoritarian in lieu of people waking up. The SCOTUS basically has banned the organization of mass protests in 3 southern states in USA.

Dorian Michel Armenteros Sanchez

Lenin's What Is To Done is a guiding light.

2 Things: You missed the chance to talk about France & spontaneity. Everyone talks about how they wish we were like the French. But their tradition of spontaneous protests has just been co-opted as a necessary cost of business. They do a bad thing, allow the protesters to make a mess. & then clean the mess up without changing anything. The second thing the nobody addresses is what folks in the suburbs are supposed to do. There are no orgs there & the cities are too far for suburbanites to actually participate. So when they join an org they end up attending few meetings and knowing few or no people, & if there is an action they're in a place they don't know well and have no connections within. The model of organization that socialist theory puts forward assume that everyone is an extroverted, city-dweller who lives in an apartment building. One of us needs to think of something new to deal with the new material reality that is the suburbs.

Puskara

I'm very grateful for this channel. It makes me realize that I'm not alone.

Li Ro

Perhaps Z Library or Library Genesis would be of some use to you?

Lee Thuggin'

Some orgs have been posting agit-prop in my area and I've been thinking about joining them in posting cheeky flyers and such and joining the local workers rights group. Your video pushed me into I think. Thanks for what you do.

Another banger, thanks JT!

I'll tell you what NOT to do. Forget about trying to "educate" your husband. A safe, sane productive home life is the way to go. I actively stay away from politics with my husband now as I'm destroying this once great country with far too many immigrants in it. Fyi Scotland is 97% (91% white Scottish plus other UK white) white so he's talking balls. This is the only Lenin book that keeps on vanishing when I order it, it's like Bezos feels threatened by it 🤔
