Here are the two resident gargoyles from the fort!
Drak speaking. This idea came from a client actually. They wanted a imp type creature for their transformation sequence and they were willing to let me come up with my own, the only guidance being they should look kinda like Midna. I was all for that so I came up with this gargoyle imp cause I've been wanting to make my own gargoyle race for some time.
When they're not bothering anyone, Bella likes to be perched top of the fort as a lookout, and Nock prefers to guard the doors. They have powers linked to the fort itself, able to fuse into the structure, the doors in particular. All the rings they have are actually door knockers!
The initial design was more like this and while I do still love it, I also wanted Llama's input and with his help we went back and forth until we came up with the slightly more furry coded designs at the top that we both enjoy.
I do also imagine variation in these creatures, much like you would see on real gargoyle statues. They're all kind of demonic and bestial with traits from various other animals. So this design would still be canon, it's just that Bella and Nock are more of the bestial type. This probably depends on the person they're made from, as they do take on some of their traits.
Part of the TF commission included this whole process here, which I'm keeping for our world.

THE LORE:
The living statues are their own monster type creature and they're more like a disease, spreading petrification to anyone around and they're not sentient, more like robots.
Gargoyles would be sentient and not made of stone, they only mimic statues for camouflage. They reproduce by impregnating petrified people. They could even have been created by someone who wanted to combat the spread of living statues, these gargoyles being immune to petrification and having the ability to seek them out and destroy the statues through the process of making another gargoyle (as shown above).
They then became a separate issue for people to deal with, especially cause they realize they need living statues to multiply so it's in their interest to not eradicate every single living statue. They instead make use of them and lead unsuspecting people to where the statues are for the sake of getting them petrified so they can make more of themselves.
So they were made to eradicate living statues but have instead "teamed up" with them and made the whole situation even more dangerous. If you find gargoyles you can assume there are living statues nearby and vice versa.
