WWAC Contributor Spotlight: Dani Kinney
Added 2021-01-04 16:00:03 +0000 UTCDani Kinney joined WWAC early last year, hitting hard right out of the gate with an essay entitled New Intersections: Queer Futurism and the Krakoan Body Politic. As part of WWAC's secret Krakoan society, Dani has lots of thoughts on the new run of X-Men comics and has shared them in our ongoing review coverage of the many, many new titles in the Dawn of X series. They have also interviewed X-Plain the X'Men's Jay Edidin, who gave us a whole new way to look at Cyclops in his issue of Marvel Snapshots.
But let's go back to those essays, because this is where Dani truly shines. As patrons, you've been privy to some of that magic in their March exclusive essay, Subterranean Mutant Semiotics: Morlocks, X-Factor, and the Privilege of Passing.
Their most recent piece for WWAC is Beyond the Metaphor: Marvel’s Long Forgotten Trans Mutant where Dani writes, "Trans people deserve to see themselves in the media they consume, in empowering and unmediated forms."
Passionate about true representation for comic readers, Dani's voice has been a powerful addition to WWAC. Comics are for everyone, and we are proud to be able to share Dani's perspectives in the fight to finally get the comics industry to where it should be.

While I haven't always agreed fully with all of Dani's opinions, I have definitely enjoyed reading them! Their articles have been fantastic insights into not just some of my favorite comics, but also as an alternative trans perspective on them than my own and a guide to some great new reading material. I'm thrilled Dani is part of the team and look forward to reading more of their work in the coming year(s)!
