El Portús 🇪🇸

El Portús is located near the historic town of Cartagena, in the Murcia region, in the south of Spain.

It is situated on the Costa Calida, and nestled in a sheltered, south-facing bay, with spectacular mountain and sea views, and is located inside the Sierra de la Muela natural park.

From 1980 and up until 2024, it operated as a family-friendly naturist campsite and was previously an active member of the Spanish Naturist Federation (F.E.N) and the International Naturist Federation (I.N.F.).

Sadly, it is no longer naturist.

In September 2023, an investment company ‘Newton Capital S.L’ purchased the campsite and started giving residents eviction notices as of November 2023.

Now operating as ‘Camping El Portús’, new managers, Taiga Resorts Costa Cálida, relaunched the now-textile site in August 2025.

El Portús was once a thriving community of over 200 residents; with some having lived there for almost 40 years.

So whilst El Portús, over the years, has mainly welcomed visitors and guests, there are permanent residents who have also purchased homes and built their lives there over the years.

The campsite is still mired in legal battles, including a bitter row over access to Cala Morena beach and residents who refuse to leave their homes, feeling they are being harassed, intimidated and forcibly evicted.

I’m grateful that I got to experience the last nude summer at El Portús, but I am also sad for the residents who have lost their homes there and for the naturist community who have lost a nude paradise.

I’d also like to thank Andy, a lovely former resident at El Portús, who took the time to speak to me about the situation and show me around the campsite during my stay. It is heartbreaking that this has happened to our fellow, good-hearted naturists.

If anything, it should serve as a reminder as to how important it is for us naturists to continue to advocate for our lifestyle and for naturist spaces so that we may continue to enjoy our lifestyle.
