VCF and The Unseen World of PowerPC
Added 2023-03-06 14:00:26 +0000 UTCSo, if you hang around in Discord, you might know that I was accepted for VCF East this year. While I've been there prior, where I had my Compaq Portable 1 on display, this year I'm going to be a bit more ambitious. I'm going to bring quite a few systems that have been on the channel, specifically:
- IBM RS/6000 Model 150 running AIX
- IBM RS/6000 Model 140 running Windows NT for PowerPC
- Motorola PowerStack E1 running Solaris for PowerPC (assuming it works)
I'm also hoping to cut a short video cut from my livestreams, unused footage from the first RS/6000 video,
While plans might change, I'm currently thinking of doing ports of DOOM to each; it should be straight forward enough to get SDL ported over, and long time videos know that I've so far done DOOM on Solaris 7/sparc, and AIX. I'm feeling pretty confident that all this should be relatively straight forward. I might even see about having the kernel debugger and looking into that OSS problem I ran into with Chocolate DOOM.
I've been using Trello to help track all the things we've been doing on Discord and for Restless Systems LLC, so I made a new board for this so you can see what's coming. I may also start scheduling my streams more in advance, but the health/sleep issues make that a bit hard. Follow along here: https://trello.com/b/lRnLc8Ba/vcf-exhibit
Also, I will get back to the OS/2 research. It happens that VCF is where I get a lot of stuff I show for you on camera (both RS/6000s came from VCF events), so this is the biggest event for me of the year. I am hoping to do VCF Midwest as well, but that won't be until this summer at the earliest. For those who don't know, VCF, or Vintage Computer Federation (https://vcfed.org/) is a US 501(c)3 not-for-profit dedicated to the preservation of vintage computing.
And no, this isn't a paid sponsorship, its just me just wanting to give a shoutout and hoping more people get involved and/or become members. I'll get a pinned post out with all the public Trello boards, and some sponsor only ones, just so folks can keep track what I'm working on.

I'd love it if you did VCF Midwest. Be cool to say "hey" in person.
