we're going to be working with some fanfic authors to do narration of their scripts. if we do that, should the "reader"/listener role say their own lines? for example, the one we're starting with has a female reader insert... should we have her be voiced, or should it be all the male VA?

2025-08-21 04:16:57 +0000 UTCSince VAs usually record their lines separately anyway, why not just release two versions and not put the self-insert lines in the second one? That way, people who ARE interested in trying the audiobook/podfic style can experience the full work as written, and the people who want only the male VA's lines and narration can be happy too.

2025-08-20 18:46:14 +0000 UTCI think this is a great idea for a few reasons! You can work with writers either in your community or out and showcase some awesome writing! This can also provide a different experience for your fans and it’s an outright cool idea! With the voicing, I think for immersion reasons only having the male or female voice actor would be preferred and add the lines for the reader/listener. However, if people aren’t watching that can be a potential problem as they could get lost in what they’re trying to say. Would it be possible to test this out with a small group? It would require extra work from the VA’s as they would have to try one with just male and one with both, and one with and without the words in it. Just an idea!
