It feeds in intuitive information directly into her mind. One of which is that each new mind continually adds to the collective in a uniquely self-aware manner. So the reason this bothers her is that this is not a spell form or something that can be explained away with the manipulation of endocrine systems. She knows it is not pheromonal due to past experiments [and I would explain things in an olfactory manner if it was.] This hive mind is entirely alien in her understanding and she is an arch-mage specialized in reverse-engineering the secrets of other cultures. She has concerns.

I shamelessly steal from established tropes in order to keep to a sense of familiarity. To summarize; magic exists in a state similar to D&D tiered magic and manga trope's mana circles - which is pretty much the same thing. While this represents raw power, a lower tiered mage can be considered more deadly as keeping a large repertoire of spells is difficult and some would specialize in battle magic as opposed to spells for construction. This is a difficult feat. Most combat ready spells [can be cast near instantaneously or within 6 seconds] are difficult to cast perfectly and reliably. An arch-mage on this world is a title given to those with incredible flexibility with their spellcasting. Insight is a mana circle 6 magus with several combat rated spells despite with a dual focus on research. The title is like a mix of a doctorate/combat/minimum mana circle 6 degree. The Prisoner uses the term differently. He believes a domain must be established to even be considered an Arch-mage. Domains are the manifestation of magic upon thought within a sphere of influence. This means magic is almost free form according to their mana element, such as a mage of frost or a mage of pure mana, such as the Prisoner. A domain requires the tier 3 in magic in addition to 'empowered / ki warrior' levels of conditioning in order to manifest. A domain also dampens the effect of magic within their sphere of influence. Insight does not have a domain. She used enhancement spells skip past the Raven qualification tests. Hope this helps

2024-03-16 02:38:54 +0000 UTCI really love your world building that plays into both the magic AND the sex scenes. Though Arch-mage is hard to quantify and there haven't been enough fights yet for power scaling and we don't know the average size/skill of armies yet. Is there a actual magic ranking system or is more like getting a advanced degree?
