Owls are trained to be a bit more selfish. They are told to value themselves due to the training and specializations they will incur. The Owls shown within this chart represents the recent graduate but a long lived mage is incredibly useful compared to an experienced warrior. More so - the Elvish Hegemony requires a strong base of magically trained work force in their industries. There's also a eugenics element towards increasing the number of mages. With their long lives, the Elves view half elves the way humans would breed dogs - about 7 to 10 generations of half elves will live and die within 1 Elvish lifetime.
I hope this goes to explain why the Owls have variations in their appearances. They and all of the Ravens have unique appearances.
Randomly thinking of other types of soldiers I haven't gotten into so far. I don't think I'll do concepts of them until they start showing up regularly in the comic.
Phoenixes - Generals of an army
Geese or Fowls - Guard forces used in captured towns and cities. Not used in offensive wars. Predominantly women empowered -
Vultures - noncombatant clean up crew and camp followers.
Dogs / Bulls - gelded human cannon fodder / shock troopers. Exceptional service restores lost parts
