Some people just like to watch, while others think themselves the star of the show. When I consider who Marian is, she would be someone who desperately tries not to be noticed. To gain the attention of their masters would mean she is about to be punished, used, or worse. So this view, where she is welcomed and not participating would be ideal for her to break out of her shell. Not to mention the schadenfreude and just being a pervert.
