Lore Entry: Orcs
Added 2024-09-25 19:52:04 +0000 UTCI love Lore Entries. These are some of my favorites to do. It speaks to my inner nerd I'm rather proud of.
So let me quickly explain what this icon stands for.
Numerical ratings
The scale goes from 0 to 10 in terms of average potential of the species. The lines are mark magnitudes of differing power levels. Numerically this scaling appears as 3, 6, 9, and 10 [the thickest boundary].
0. No potential.
3. Average potential.
6. The best of a 3 potential species would be able to compete with weak members of 6.
9. The best of a 3 potential species would not be able to compete with weak members of 9.
10. These races are on a different level.
Categories
These categories are broad and a poor measure of nuance. They serve to categorize vast differences in species.
Magic Aptitude:
The ease in which a species detects and manipulates mana
Mana Capacity:
The capacity a species can store mana to fuel their spells.
Empowered Aptitude:
The ease in which mana circulates and infuses into the body of a species.
Natural Physique:
Physical capability such as agility, endurance, durability, and strength.
Minimal Mana Req:
Some species require mana in order to survive.
Mutagenic Potential:
The ease in which a species can be genetically or magically altered.
Comments
Bit of both. The joy of not knowing, being able to be selfish, and not viewing the toy as a person. It could be one or all three depending on the individual. How far it goes into bullying gets into the individual and what is culturally acceptable. One of this comic's theme is about the wrongness of dehumanizing others and how that leads to a cycle of violence. The orcs themselves are a people. Their cultures are just as varied. Some will have gotten over the natural empathy gap between species. Other orc cultures such as the one who invaded Warden's kingdom as marauders would not.

2024-09-26 04:10:01 +0000 UTCGoblins are weaker than humans and orcs on almost every level. So beating the Orcs is an achievement. The Goblin lore entry will eventually be posted, but to give a hint. They were volunteer colonists who were smugglers. Tech decline did occur, but the Goblins knew what they were getting into. The Human Lore entry is next week. And will get into why planetary colonies exist.

2024-09-26 03:09:20 +0000 UTCA couple of factors are in play. 1. They find humans attractive much like we would find elves attractive. Svelte and slim. 2. It is liberating for them not to care about their sexual partner as they do not share the racial emphatic bond, while their lovers would. This leads many Orcs to view this as not cheating on each other. 3. If orc slaves are bullied, they would make the other orcs feel it through their emphatic bonds. With human slaves this does not matter. So slaves of other races are preferred.

2024-09-26 03:04:56 +0000 UTCI definitely like the Lore Entries as well. The fact that the Goblins keep beating such powerful beings makes me curious how they are so strong. Are we talking magic mechs, alchemists, simple guns?
