Tougher than the metal they're named after, and almost as fanatic as your local Kriegsman, the Steel Legion are the bane (blade) of any ork populations nearby and looking to take the place of my favorite of all the guard regiments.

A vehicle using one of those is explicitly described as using that, like the Space Marine's Hunter tank, firing anti-air missiles loaded with a Servitor as a guidance system. "Machine Spirits" are just... things... living in the vehicles/ships operating autonomously and sometimes straight up disobeying the user's commands or operating the vehicle/weapon independently of any driver/gunner.

2024-07-08 08:26:51 +0000 UTCIn the Hydra's defense, it's not firing the kind of rounds the A-10 does. It's basically a self-aiming, quad-barelled Bofors with near-perfect aim. So, fewer but BEEFIER rounds and very, very accurate. Fun side note: The Hydra does this entirely out of a hatred of anything airborne on a *personal* level.

2024-05-24 03:14:16 +0000 UTCa) They're just AI and the AdMech gaslighted themselves ages ago into believing they're not to dodge around the whole "No AI" rule b) Given that there's a C'Tan all about Machinery parked under Mars and every AdMech world was colonized by people from Mars using Martian-made gear, it's possible everything they manufacture has either a teeny tiny bit of him in it or at least his influence or something. c) Given that gods in 40k are at least partially powered by belien, it's possible all those trillions of people praying to a God of Machines has actually created one. Given that Humans are way less potent in the warp than Eldar, the god they've created is pretty weak and the Machine Spirits is as much as it can do. d) A bit of all of the above
