The fact that the world did not end and i was forced to deal with the biblical hangover I'd accumulated seemed to me, at the time, as a personal insult from the universe itself. As if it had canceled it's plans to wipe the save data simply to spite me with continued existence.

I wasn't sure I believed it, but I wasn't sure I disbelieved it either, so I made my peace as best I could and just went to bed on the 21st thinking "Either I'll wake up tomorrow morning or I won't." But I had anxiety as a young kid, I was terrified that a meteor would hit my house overnight or the world would be swallowed by a black hole, or I'd get eaten by some scary monster. So facing existential dread is something I've had to get good at lol
