The original purpose of a ‘sports car’ was a car that you can drive on the road to a race track and be as fast as possible without any compromises, they were often raced by rich privateers since “sport” used to mean “competition”. They were often as, or more miserable than regular cars at the time due to no compromises for comfort or safety. There is no modern car that fits this description, even the most aggressive sports cars like the gt3 rs is leagues more comfortable, safe and slower than its race car counterpart the gt3 cup.

Like if a realtor or a contractor shows up in a Ferrari, you kinda hates his guts and don't trust they will do whats best for you as opposed to what serves them, while if a lawyer turns up in a rusty Lada you may fear they are not really up for it. The Golf, according to this guy, could fit any profession and social level. A contractor in a Golf. Sure, sensible choice. A lawyer in a Golf, not an impressive car, but very no nonsense, we will allow it.
