2024-10-21 17:31:51 +0000 UTCI've always thought the tau looking super advanced compared to the other factions actually does mesh well because everyone else is is using tech from thousands of years ago and maintaining, where the tau are still getting to their golden age and fielding the new ideas. Everyone else has had huge stagnation or collapse (or both), while the tau is a society without either.

2024-10-17 16:43:58 +0000 UTCI know you guys keep mentioning that the T'au don't mesh well with the rest of the setting's aesthetic, but in all honestly I think that's precisely why they work design-wise. I love having huge contrasts in fiction, and the T'au are absolutely a standard sci-fi faction being pitted againts the utter insanity and backwards-ness of the rest of 40k. They're a young and promising beacon among a entire cast of fallen, disgraced empires struggling to survive. Making them look just as brutal and fantasy-esque as the rest of the factions would take that away. I like that the very fact that they're very normal is what makes them stand out so much in this insane universe.

I like how alien they feel where you look at each other faction and you see how they look kinda alike-ish But the tau genuinely feel like a peice of other sci-fi media barging into 40k. However if we see a schism in the tau bigger than farsight and his enclave. An example being that if a bunch of tau commanders see how bad the tau ethereals can be there could be like a whole heresy where half say:i will work to make the empire better And another half going:ok you guys suck im gonna go camp with farsight and join his little group. And we see there technology decay like the emperiums did during old knight and see new crisis suits that look like AC or militech.

(11 years ago an in Denmark) I went with that route as I had just moved to another city and finished uni, and I needed another approach. Make them take the propaganda driven "it is perfect because we are perfect" machines and experience what the galaxy has in store for them, making them realise they HAVE to adapt and modify
