🔥🔥🔥🔥 Fire Tier Exclusive Mini Series: Alternate Vigilante Arc 1

The notification sound from League of Legends had become white noise at this point—another teammate flaming in chat, another jungle gank gone wrong, another day bleeding nightlife in my dorm room.

‘This is not how I expected college life to go..’

I rubbed my eyes, the blue light from my monitor making everything look washed out and artificial.

11:05 PM.

I should probably sleep soon. Had a morning lecture that I'd definitely skip, but still.

‘Alright. Just one more. Can't risk going AFK now anyway ....’

T~RRING

I glanced at my phone, thoughts interrupted. "Ken, you coming or what?"

Marcus had texted me fifteen minutes ago about some party happening across campus. Something about Jessica throwing a last-minute thing before midterms kicked everyone's ass.

My cursor hovered over the surrender vote that had just popped up. We were getting stomped anyway—our ADC had the game sense of a particularly stupid goldfish, and I was too tired to carry this train wreck to victory.

But a party?

I was about to click yes when something else popped up on my screen.

*[YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR INTERDIMENSIONAL TRANSMIGRATION! PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE TO CONTINUE.]*

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I muttered, trying to click around it. The popup had locked everything—I couldn't minimize it, couldn't close it, couldn't even alt-tab out. It just sat there with its obnoxiously bright blue interface that looked like someone had ripped off every RPG character creation screen ever made.

My phone buzzed again five minutes later. Marcus, probably wondering where I was.

Meanwhile, I was busy having a technical battle against a popup ad. And losing badly.

I tried ctrl+alt+delete. Nothing. Tried unplugging my mouse and plugging it back in. The popup just stared at me mockingly. I looked at the screen. Like really, really looked at he screen.

"Fine," I said, cracking my knuckles. "Let's see what this elaborate piece of malware wants."

The interface was surprisingly polished. Destination worlds, ability customization, even character background options. It was better designed than most actual games I'd played recently.

*"Select your destination world."*

The list was extensive. I scrolled through, reading names that made my inner weeb very happy and my sense of self-preservation very concerned.

Bleach, One Piece, Marvel, DC, Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball, Naruto, My Hero Academia...

‘Fictional worlds? Aren't the people who created this thing afraid of getting sued?’ I crossed a lot out of the list. Then crossed again for those I just didn't really like.

My phone buzzed again. This time it was a call.

I answered. "Dude, where are you? Party's already started and people are asking about you."

"People?"

"Your Girlfriend. Who else."

"She's not my girlfriend."

"Dude, that's not what everyone else thinks."

Why didn't she just call herself then? I glanced between the phone and the screen. The popup wasn't going anywhere, and I'd already wasted twenty minutes trying to force-quit it. Maybe if I just picked something quickly...

"Yeah, sorry man. Got caught up in something. I'll be there in like... twenty minutes?"

"Cool, see you soon."

I ended the call and looked back at the screen. My finger hovered over the options. My Hero Academia caught my eye—seemed like one of the safer choices. Modern world, mostly reasonable power scaling, actual infrastructure...

I clicked it.

*"Choose your primary ability set."*

More options appeared. I skimmed through them quickly—Elemental Manipulation, Spatial Distortion, Titan Transformation, Shapeshifting, Infinity Barrier ...

It took my phone buzzing with another text to let me know just how absorbed I got while scrolling through this list. "Seriously dude, Jessica keeps asking where you are. Just get over here."

"Shit," I muttered, moving my hand that was just a second away from clicking infinity barrier and reaching instead for my jacket. I could deal with this stupid popup later. Probably just restart the computer when I got back.

I headed for the door, leaving the screen glowing behind me.

Thirty minutes after I left, the popup flickered.

*"Selection timeout reached. Initiating incomplete transmigration protocol..."*

*"Warning: Character configuration 15% complete. Proceeding with partial integration..."*

*"Destination: My Hero Academia Universe - CONFIRMED"*

*"Primary Ability: NOT SELECTED"*

*"Secondary Abilities: NOT SELECTED"*

*"Utility Abilities: NOT SELECTED"*

*"Background integration: INCOMPLETE CHARACTER CREATION. NO BACKGROUND CAN BE GENERATED"*

*"Identity framework: PURE TRANSMIGRATION INITIATED"*

*"Initiating emergency placement protocol: COUNTDOWN: 3:00:00"*

*"DEFAULT PARAMETERS CONFIRMED: ENJOY YOUR TRANSMIGRATION JOURNEY"*

The screen went black.

Then rebooted.

Soon, my computer was back on, as if nothing ever happened, and I was none the wiser.

My final hours on my home world would be spent getting drunk under peer pressure while back in my empty room, my computer fan whirred quietly in the dark, the only sound in a space that would remain empty for much longer than I'd planned.
