Build of the Month

Build of the Month is by one of the world's best minecraft builders.  His minecraft name is Kenofox and he is from Japan.  He has been building some incredible structures in minecraft for many years and he is embarking on his final and most ambitious build ever.  He is building a fantasy world and city on a simply epic scale.

I asked Kenofox for tips for anyone trying to build such an epic fantasy city or just any large minecraft project in general.  This was his advice: Always have a strong sense of direction of where you want the build to head - in other words have an overall plan and don't just start building.  With an overall plan you can make best use of the terrain and make sure that buildings work well together like in a real city.

Kenofox is building this on the Builders' Refuge server - if you would like to visit it then let me know and I will show you where it is.  The style is very much fantasy and he is using a custom version of the AtherysAscended texture pack.

Amazingly Kenofox reckons this project is going to take him between 4 and 5 years! After that he says he will be 'done' - and I am not surprised! I will chart the progress of this build in these newletters - dropping in now and again.

He has made excellent use of the 'building in odd numbers' technique.  Every build has a width and length in odd numbers which lets roofs meet at a single point and makes it easier to centre doors and windows.  It also lets you expand builds easily knowing that the odd numbered lengths join and merge together with ease.  When I pointed this out Kenofox actually took it as a challenge to add some even numbered builds in - we shall see how this looks soon!

I managed to get a selfie with Kenofox! I have actually known him over 4 years as he used to build on a city build server with me.  In those days I remember him making some epic baroque style houses.  In the following pictures you can see some archways - he has lots of archways under bridges and I was interested to know if he had any tips for arches.

Kenofox said for this arch he started with the yellow section - making the lengths slowly decrease as he worked from right to left. Then the blue and orange sections which were identical but rotated 90 degrees.  Then, he could add the red section which was the same as the yellow section in terms of lengths.

I hope this build and interview with Kenofox has given you some inspiration!

We launched our latest version of our city texture pack - called Flows UTB. You can download it from http://andyisyoda.com

Thanks again for your support! The massive mansion I am making will be ready for December's download! Look out for plenty of livestreams this month.  I hope to keep on playing a few different games like Foundation, colonists and maybe one other - what would you suggest?
