I plan to get more into the psychology of devils in future books, but in short many of them have massive egos, and growing up for a devil is largely about being repeatedly beaten down until they learn to temper their own opinions of themselves. They all believe themselves to be special, but ones that make it to old age either learn humility or actually deserve their own opinions of themselves. They basically have main character syndrome as a species defining trait. Cassara's actual qualifications for this job are: 1) Having wings, and 2) Being dumb enough to bond with Nemesis. We can intuit that her entire purpose for being here is so that her partner, who is actually a valuable and competent agent, doesn't have to bond with a magic item that would inevitably kill him. She's a little better than a warm body filling a role, but she thinks she's the center of the universe. She's also projecting her own status very hard onto her partner, which is mostly may way of telling the reader the objective reality of the situation with her as an unreliable narrator.

I dont know enough about the Adversary organization to understand Cassandra's whole deal. How much does the Big Boss man cares about his individual employees? He himself said that he is aware that a bunch of the people who follow him just want to pratice unhinged evil and be rewarded for it, but many also share his views and believe in the Adversary's vision that evil is nescessary. Cassandra's too high opinion of herself makes it dificult to judge if she is just a sacrificial pawn here, sent in a mission that was always going to be a bit of a longshot, or if this mission is actually very important and she was chosen because she was the ideal agent. Its obvious to me the old guy(who is clearly much higher in the peck order) has a low opinion of her and just humors her to keep her managed, and will probably throw her to the wolves the second it becomes nescessary.

this chapter feels like infinity will become partly daemonic in nature at some point and that change will change their past self in a way that it already happened yet not yet. The author is not allowed to answer this.
