[Salvos] 726. Improved World (Removed for KU)

"I gave Hartia a flare stare" - this should probably be a "flat stare".

Danijel Turina

Honestly, I think the assumption that all the legions can be liberated is overly optimistic. We've seen enough in the Mortal Realm to know that some will be quite loyal to Regnorex, to the point of willingly dying for him. Then there are the literal [Legions], lesser and greater, who are basically zombie-soldiers, also completely loyal, and also not really independent persons. And only after that do we get the actual point of legions - production of loyal Archdemons for Regnorex, and those will be placed around his castle, numbering probably in tens of thousands. So, realistically, she might actually encounter a military formation where the common soldiers actually want to fight her and are loyal to Regnorex. Also, some formations might be under such tight control by their supervisors, she might not even get the opportunity to talk to them about defecting, they will simply attack. Sure, she might find those that want to join her, and she can rift them away to safety, but I don't see this as something that can be done with huge masses in the middle of a fight. But generally speaking, this situation is explosive enough as it is without introducing Manos, who is unlikely to resort to diplomacy. Bringing someone who thinks he needs to prove himself with you to such a fight all but guarantees it will devolve into a massacre. There need to be talks first, and she would really need Hartia on her shoulder, to demonstrate that de-collaring is a realistic option. With Hartia shaking under some rock, and Manos already reaching for his axe, Haec being incredibly not in charge of anyting, and everybody else arguing and being useless, this is not the best possible configuration before a fight. It's not a serious one, and Salvos can deal with it all herself while maintaining a time chamber inside her magical forest in her head, but if it comes to a fight, rather than all the leaders surrendering together with their legions, it's going to be a very nasty slaughter where millions die.

Danijel Turina

Salvos can put the small fry in her world, she can decollar them herself using space magic or corruption. There are a lot of ways she can avoid slaughtering everyone as long as Manos listens to her and they can be converted in the first place. I think it will be a top10 v top10.

Dragonmaster_42

What this seems to imply is that this might devolve into a mass slaughter, where the vast portion of those remaining legions will be killed, Salvos will level a lot, and Haec will have a fit, since this will be a disaster from the viewpoint of the original goal of liberating them.

Danijel Turina

If I'm reading this right, she's about to have a second serious fight within a day. I don't know what's the cooldown on her skills at this point, because things change so quickly, but [Flames] is probably back, and so is [Worldbreak]. [Claw] is out, it has a cooldown of two or three days, and so does [Divine Essence of...], but that last one is still on, and we still don't know what that GS point did. It might remain on for quite a while, and/or the cooldown might be reduced. The important thing is, it's still on, and if they do the battle quickly, it should outlast it. So, basically, [The Claw of Corruption] is the only big weapon that's not available, which is a shame because it's an impressive way to kill a high-value target and intimidate the shit out of others. But she doesn't actually need it here. She upgraded lots of stuff, and she has +50 to all stats. That's a lot, and since she's not fighting Primordials, it should be a slaughter, not a fight. I'm sorry Manos has to keep slaughtering Demons to prove himself; he obviously did too much of that and it weighs heavily on his conscience, and I'd have liked him to get a reprieve, for instance looks scary while Salvos does the killing. Did Haec level from the Jofis kill? He should; his GS contributed to victory, and since he's very low levelled, it should be quite a bit of XP. I hope he doesn't stay in the background; he needs to level more because what can he be now, lvl 154? Also, those legions are different from what they faced so far, because they are all together, and you can't just kill one leader and free them. You need to kill all the leaders, or at least have them defect. This means the low level demons might participate in the fight, which is not good, because they will get slaughtered, and also interfere. Will those smartass Archdemons who interrogated Manos actually join the fight and show that they mean business, or will they just act important? Manos will feel pressured to prove himself, and that's a bad way to approach a battle. I would expect him to be excellent against a single opponent, but not so good against large masses, unlike Salvos, who is an excellent Mage, and can use stuff like space magic to crush, and corruption to introduce chaos, and thus manage a large battlefield. If Hartia doesn't join them, it will not be possible to use de-collaring as a tactical move, which removes a useful option that possibly reduces casualties. Basically, the goal of the battle should be to liberate all the slave demons, have as many high-levelled demons change sides, and instantly kill the loyalists. The goal should *not* be Manos to prove himself by slaughtering as many Demons as he can get his hands on, because that's incredibly counterproductive strategically. Also, one important goal is for Salvos to level as much as possible, because by my calculations she needs to be around or above 185 for Regnorex and the Matriarch Centinel. The crisis of her baseline stats was greatly lessened by the +50/all title bonus, but she does eventually need to reach her evolution, and her class should not lag too far behind. Also, it would be fun to have Manos and Salvos cooperate in a fight, the way she cooperated with Orgaf, and for him to see her in action, because he must be very curious about her combat abilities, seeing how she killed Venas and destroyed Jofis.

Danijel Turina

:) Yeah, she does sound like that sometimes, but she is actually very careful with people, especially her companions. Miscalculations are a whole other matter. It's a paradox - she will take two of her companions for a six months expedition in the Plaguelands, where they will sniff corpses and decay, eat trash and be in constant danger from everything that moves, and yet when they go to sleep in a cave, and she stands guard, they are in the safest place in the world, because if something attacks, it's going to face Salvos in full combat mode, defending people who are everything to her. It must be a combination of a terrible ordeal and something great, knowing that she actually has your best interests at heart, but will lead you into situations where you are all an inch away from death. As for Haec, I have no idea where this is going. They are not really close anymore. He doesn't know almost anything about her. She doesn't know what he did under Regnorex. They spent almost entire lives apart, and this looks like a weird reunion with a best friend from childhood whom you don't actually know anymore, but you share first memories. Would he be her companion if they met *now*, and didn't know each other from before? I don't think so. She hardly even talks to him because they don't really gravitate together, and Aemula is easier company. Will this end with him taking over from Regnorex and her moving on to her real home? Or will he die, and she'll be both grief stricken from losing a childhood friend, and be released from this anchor?

Danijel Turina

Salvos is an absolute menace lol

Crashdevil

How what?

Zuuuuuri

"Hey Haec! Do you mind if I corrupt you for a bit? It's totally safe! Probably!"

Dragonmaster_42

how?

Użytkownik Przeciętny

I don't know about the crush, but he's going to be having nightmares in whichever hole he's hiding in. :) I hope Edithe and her team come soon, and bring Lily. Seeing them interact with Salvos might teach him how to act, and likely make him jealous. :)

Danijel Turina

Even if he is traumatized, confused and has a crush on Salvos (all of which may or may not be true), he is still responsible for his own actions and must live with the consequences. As a powerful member of demonic society, he should even know that image matters little compared to combat power.

Dragonmaster_42

"That means the number of suitable candidates is 0" - well, if she can practice extinguishing and modifying corruption safely, that's all that matters; everything else is an afterthought. Also, it's useful if someone like Regnorex or Oracli needs convincing; they don't know what corruption even is, so a little demonstration might go a long way.

Danijel Turina

I'm thinking about a possible alternative interpretation of his behaviour. He's been with Demons for like thousands of years. He learned not to show weakness, act tough etc., especially when he's feeling the exact opposite, and he was scared shitless recently and had to be rescued by Salvos multiple times, while surrounded by multiple others who were much stronger, to the point where he felt he had no control over his destiny. So, of course, he thought he should improve his image in front of Salvos by acting tough and disparaging her work. He also might have misread her, not understanding that she's insecure and needs a hug, because he just saw her in a super-powerful mode, devastating a lvl 196 without incurring any damage. So, he did all the wrong things.

Danijel Turina

That means the number of suitable candidates is 0... But she can train on objects and try crafting using the corruption!

Dragonmaster_42

"The hypocracy is especially thick around Haec the TORMENTOR" - absolutely. He probably levelled by killing lots of wild demons outside the expanse, but there is evidence to suggest that he quite brutally trained other Archdemons in order for them to learn grand skills, and the survivors of this were then sent to Alyras to wreak havoc. I think it's reasonable to expect that many more died during this training.

Danijel Turina

He must have really liked his little pokeball (Cube of Isolation) then. Salvos should furnish it for him.

Dragonmaster_42

The hypocracy is especially thick around Haec the TORMENTOR Aside from the question how he kept pace that well with Salvos' leveling, that title doesn't come from friendly claps in the back. It's not hard to imagine that he has some inconsistent beliefs and regrets

Dragonmaster_42

She might need Hartia for the next round of de-collaring if they are to fight the rest of the legions, so I wonder if he'll stop sulking by then. :) But honestly, that guy needs a serious attitude readjustment, and I mean LART level 9. Also, did he forget who he was talking to, telling her she can't possibly create anything that would scare him? I mean, we're talking about Salvos that's an escalated version of what made Devil's skin crawl? Her blend of corruption with her normal functioning managed to freak out Samuel, and here's Hartia who doesn't have any Divinity and minutes ago witnessed her literally devastating an immortal with her corruption skills? Is he an idiot?

Danijel Turina

I definitely agree that it is better to rift them there, but I don't think that's feasible for the level of opponent that move is appropriate against. Opening the flood gates has less effect but higher chance of success IMO.

Dragonmaster_42

"How.... extreme... is the corruption in her pocket space. " - I would expect it to be less than the most extreme versions. Sure, it opens rifts in space, which is worse than usual, but it doesn't look as terrible as the [Corrupted Voidspace], [~ Hellspace] etc. Also, Hartia managed to open a portal to the outside, which makes me think the corruption level is very mild. In her [Prison of Isolation], this stuff is much stronger and he couldn't do any space magic whatsoever.

Danijel Turina

Yes, that's the idea. I mean, I guess it's going to stop giving much if any XP once it becomes trivial to her, like making a divine nebular scythe, but it's an excellent training ground for corrupting and un-corrupting things without actually damaging the Nexeus. There's lots of potential there, also for training others to deal with the corruption. However, if they don't have Divinity it might actually corrupt them which would be bad.

Danijel Turina

Infinite XP glitch by repairing the corruption she caused herselt?

Dragonmaster_42

I don't think "trouble" is the right word. She creates chaos. Usually, it's for the better; people have their tiny orderly world and she comes, tears down doors and eats bug, but also makes impossible things possible. For the most part, she doesn't really know the rules and just makes a mess by accident, but in this case, I think she needs to shake them up because they are trying really hard to lose this war and she doesn't really care about their desire because she wants to win it, despite their best efforts.

Danijel Turina

I wonder, how easy is it to her to un-corrupt it back to normal? Because that looks like the kind of practice that would be very useful for managing corruption in Nexeus. Basically, level her Class skills.

Danijel Turina

The problem is, what she has here is not an army, it's a loosely tied mob that behaves like a typical slave revolt that wants to blame and punish someone for their experience, while refusing to acknowledge their own moral failings. Manos is right - yes, I killed to survive, and so did you; I just did it more because I'm older and better at it. An additional problem is that Regnorex was teaching them obedience for ten thousand years, and now Haec wants to introduce liberal democracy in times of war. Manos is right - Haec is doing a very poor job at managing this. Also, Hartia; I'm just shocked at how much of a cunt he is. He adopted this nasty Demon mentality where he's always harsh and abrasive, completely misread the situation and didn't understand she's trying to be friends with him, and acted as tone deaf as it would be if Ivory wanted to show something to him and he abrasively said that he saw better flowers. What a nasty little shit. I hope Edithe, Willy and Centina come quickly.

Danijel Turina

"Does she really need to rift people there?" - yes, because you'd want to keep that stuff contained, and you want your enemy completely enveloped by it so that they can't orient themselves or fight properly. Also, I'd expect the access to mana there to be about as nice as in a blight field.

Danijel Turina

I originaly thought that worldbreak would allow her to make corrupted entities, but this might be even worse. Now she can fill an entire plane with corruption and just open the floodgates whenever she needs a little "help"

We like Salvos not only for solving problems easiest way possibile, but also for bringing trouble :)

Użytkownik Przeciętny

How.... extreme... is the corruption in her pocket space. They may not even be able to learn how to go where they want, it took salvos a YEAR to figure out how to even go where she wanted Near corruption that intense.

Shade Light

Thanks for the chapter, Melas! I can't wait for Friday!

Dragonmaster_42

The ironic thing is that not only does she desperately need her friends back, they need her back even more desperately!

Dragonmaster_42

Does she really need to rift people there? Can't she just open the pocket space up and have her corruption spill out? Since it's hers, she likely also has more control over it than over normal corruption.

Dragonmaster_42

Maybe I made it a bit to corrupted… you can’t even see the first few words that say “I bet”…

"“That’s probably a good idea?” Or was it? I didn’t actually know. But it sounded like a good idea to me." - well, it depends, because if he slaughters people who otherwise might have changed sides... He might require close supervision from Salvos, not because of loyalty, but because he might miss the point of the exercise.

Danijel Turina

Yes, she can rift an enemy there, and if they are not familiar with the corruption, they would have such a terrible experience it would aid her incredibly. Sure, a Divinity-based GS would probably break through, but one might die to corruption before figuring that out.

Danijel Turina

"I had wanted to show off my improved Grand Skill to someone, but Haec was busy, and I wasn’t really that close with anyone except for maybe Ameula." - typo, it's Aemula. But honestly, this is quite sad. She's leading an army of millions and she could count three people she could show off her work to, one of which is busy, the other who wouldn't be able to understand it, and the third one who is a total cunt. Serves him right about the corruption, he had it coming. But she needs her real friends back, friends who will actually support her when she needs it, because she obviously needs it now. She's been in a tough battle, from her position she barely survived it, she's feeling insecure about herself and wanted to show off her new place a little. At least she got a little boost from scaring the snarky little bitch.

Danijel Turina

I am feeling so vindicated right now, I proposed last chapter that Salvos can make her World filled with stage hazards like with the corruption, and that’s exactly what she did! Now I’m very excited on how far she can push this grand skill, especially now that it has some Major offensive utility.

Simple but to the point, this is the genius of our princess.
