Bullied gay teen Cameron (Miles Heizier) joins the Marine Corps with his best friend Ray (Liam Oh) despite risks. In boot camp they experience profound personal change amid danger, as their platoon confronts both literal and figurative landmines.

Good reaction guys, back in your channel again! Yes, this show isn't exactly what you were thinking beforehand. It was a sad time, back in 1990, even before Don't Ask Don't Tell, when the ban was absolute and being found out meant at best a dishonorable discharge and at worst prison time. It's an important show, especially now, when some in power want to push the clock back/ Thanks! Luis

2025-10-31 20:35:05 +0000 UTCI don't know about the marines, but I have a Two-Star General and also a Red Beret, whose rank I think is Tech Sergent among 2 of my 4 siblings. Also a nephew who served but is a civilian now ... All Air Force. When you get to see them at the end when they still have to live on base but it's closer to the graduation or whatever it's called, it's pitiful. They are so cowed until BASIC is officially over, it's almost like dealing with someone who was recovered from like an island airplane crash after years, that sort of astonishment at the freedom and civility of the outside world. All of my family that served are cis/het too, but for my sister, she was an 18 year old woman who joined in 1984! To get free college (she has a master's degree now too!). That was a pretty steep incline too! No bed of roses.

I personally joined to pay for college but I agree with everything you said about the military and cops. Also, everything is pretty accurate in this show so you get a good idea of everything you’d experience in basic training… actually it’s worse in real life.

Rewatching the first episode here is interesting though I can't say I really like it any better than before. This is definitely a series that took a minute to find its tone.
