Added 2023-04-26 03:51:00 +0000 UTCI just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone and their support in reading my very first middle grade graphic novel MEESH the BAD DEMON Book One! It’s been about a month since I have made an official post, so I apologize for the temporary pause on my usual weekly comics, but I really think it was a much needed recovery month to soak in all that has happened.
Making Meesh was a wild ride in that it was my first book done with a major publisher. I had no idea how publishing works, especially coming from the world of animation. I loved the idea of finally having the chance to create my own story, but with that comes a LOT of mental ups and downs.
The offset of time between starting a project and releasing it always feels weird to me because it feels like I am showing older work to represent the me now. It just feels like I’ve grown a lot as an artist since the book’s release, but thus is the cycle of an artist’s mentality. I truly think every artist is their own worst critic, but when the thoughts get too dark, I just remind myself: Hey, at least you got something done. I find it unhelpful to get held up over the small details, even though it inevitably happens.
Regardless, I’m grateful to have a roof over my head, feed myself good food, travel the world with family, and be able to leave a positive impact on people, thanks to my ability to draw something and slap some words next to them. Seeing all of you take pictures of Meesh in your library, local bookstore, in your hands, in your kid’s hands, in your pet’s mouth, or even slightly damaged from shipping (sorry!), really does remind me why I’m happy to be doing what I do. Despite the emotional rollercoaster of making a book, I love Meesh for being what my 12 year old self needed most. Thank you all again for being such an amazing support and I can’t wait to start sharing some comics again soon! 😘💕
