Out Sick

I was feeling a little bit sick when I posted the last chapter a week ago, and had joked with my wife that it was one of the weakest colds that I'd ever had ... and then I just kept getting worse. I'm fairly sure now that it was influenza, our whole house had it, and my son ended up with dual ear infections. I'm on the mend now, at maybe 70% capacity.

I have a policy of not doing publishable writing when I'm sick, mostly because I think that it comes out bad, which makes sense, because writing is high-cognition and sickness tends to slow down the brain. But I do tend to write, just ... stuff that I'm not going to share with anyone, because it's not up to snuff.

Anyway, I did want to share two things. One of them is an interlude/short that I wrote and never finished last year, when I had COVID. The reason I never finished it was that I didn't think that it was very good, meandering through its setting without clear purpose. So with that said, and the caveat that it was abandoned in the middle of writing when I recovered, you can read that here. I left comments on, but won't be updating this at all, if I was ever going to do anything with the concept I would be rewriting it from the ground up.

The other thing is a test chapter for an idea that I had been kicking around for a while, which is "time loop but with a new character class every loop". You can read that here. I was mostly writing this to have something to write that wasn't Thresholder while I waited for my IQ to go back up. It's another thing that I would want to rewrite from the ground up, but I'm not sure that it got to the "fun" part of the pitch, the promise of the premise.

These are presented here mostly as a peek behind the curtain, little sickly larval works, which have hopefully been presented with enough caveats.
