After Halloween Discount (Mini Story)
Added 2019-11-03 07:41:06 +0000 UTCToday would be a challenge for the store staff. November 1st almost as bad as Black Friday or Christmas Eve for this Wisconsin supermarket.
Most businesses had begun do away their Halloween sales halfway into the first week of October to make way for Christmas merchandise. Not this store. Halloween candy and other high calories treats themed around the holiday were some of there highest selling items and upper management had to order literal tons of candy to meet demand. They currently had devoted two whole aisles just to sell the spooky sweets and they still had plenty left over. Now that Halloween was done and gone, this surplus would go on sale.
It was before 4am when the first dozen people showed up, a group of fat people, none under 250 pounds. The crowd continued to grow steadily over the next couple hours until a human cattle herd of obese shoppers had formed. The morning cashiers grimaced as they arrived half an hour before opening and they had to squeeze through the sea of soft, sweaty flab in order to get inside.
Once the doors officially opened for the day, a stampede of jiggling flesh rushed into the store, making a bee line straight for the discounted candies. It was a free for all, like a sugar crazed feeding frenzy as the super sized customers fought over the cheap junk food like their lives depended on it. Those who couldn't grab a bag from the sale consoled themselves by clearing out the normal priced candy aisle. And while were they there, they all decided might as well stock up on other snacks and ransacked anything they thought looked sweet or salty. Although, chances were that everything purchased today would digested before sundown.
The event died down around noon. Most of the customers were already snacking on their spoils before they reached the register. Some had already emptied their bags into their large guts. After they had all checked out, they squeezed their way into their cars and drove off, leaving the battered store staff to clean up and stock up on the Christmas snacks. In about two months, they would have to deal with a similar sized crowd trying to get stale cookies and barely fresh eggnog at a knocked down price.
