Episode 262 - Open Source is bad, actually - say Open Source users

Apparently, when a Chinese company makes open source software, that's bad somehow. Don't mention that the NSA also made open source software.

I share this same experience. People will rather avoid talking about their differences out fear of escalation than debating them with respect for argumentation and critical thinking. It's hard to find people who can resist falling into these traps. And the worst of all is the fact that social media is rewarding tribalism, bandwagoning and rallying behind the flag. I don't know if this trend is gonna run out of steam or escalate beyond the tipping point.

I agree with what you are saying, I would prefer bad people who do a good thing, and encourage them to continue to do good, that is called change. The issue is that it requires critical thinking, and the ability to think for oneself. With the inability of people to educate themselves, due to brainwashing from previous education, or through an unwillingness to view an opposing viewpoint from a critical perspective and see that there might be a point they missed because they are wearing blinders applied by "their side", I do not think many people can get past the ridiculous habit of "my side is right and everything you are saying is wrong." Its more societal now, not educational, we have moved away from a society that can think to a society of Left and Right with no middle ground. I catch myself falling into it as well, but I purposefully force myself to view opposing or counter viewpoints so that I can get a bigger picture. That does not happen with many people, so many have fallen into base camps of one side or the other. Finding middle ground or even just niceness in people is a hard road to travel. You have to put a lot into this episode, and brought forward a very good topic of discussion, though I suspect many will not get the point.
