I see this problem with adults too. And I hate it. I never developed the habit of scrolling through social media. So seeing that from anyone sickens me.

It saddens me greatly when I see not only children but adults walking about staring at their phones, completely ignoring the world around them. Some adults understand the addictive nature of these devices and limit their own exposure, so it's possible that they would attempt to limit the exposure that their children have too. However, from what I see every day, so many adults are addicted themselves, and pass this on to their children. I feel lucky to have grown up long before this technology existed. I spent most of my childhood outside with friends, playing physical games and climbing trees. Here in the UK, we are becoming more and more controlled by our government, which restricts this and bans that almost everyday it seems. In the case of smart phones though, I have to agree that a ban for children is not only a good idea, but absolutely necessary.

I think schools should ban tablets/smartphones too. However, I wouldn't put depression as the sole nor the main reason to ban harmful technology for children. There are many, many issues that are problematic - mostly the compulsive design features, harmful interactions, social isolation, loneliness, harmful content, gamification of attention, obsessive retention, etc...

Yes, but that is something that should start at home. Parents prohibiting kids smartphones. Its hard when schools give them tablets in kinder for their assignments. Worst yet, when parents give them a phone to their toddlers to watch baby shark so they get entertained with it. A smartphone is a tool that can change the cognitive mind of an adult, much more of a kid. So yes, smartphones should be illegal to kids at least until age 21. And even so they can get depressed at that age with it.
