Huh, sorry for such a late response. I haven't noticed your comment. Telegram only uses encryption "at rest" or in their own data centers. They claim they store their data in multiple locations in a few different countries, Durov or anyone he gave access to his keys could easy unlock Telegram data, because all data, including encrypted, is always collected by bulk surveillance. I find it suspicious how friendly the Russian government turned out to be during this arrest and after they stopped actively blocking Telegram in the country. Telegram's setup requires that we trust Durov completely with all of our data and that's not something I am willing to do. The best system is a trustless system.

2024-11-09 19:58:47 +0000 UTCJust to add insult to injury, secret chats don't show you message contents in a push & chat only appears on a device you've started it on. So if you have 3 devices, you will start 3 different chats in addition to the unencrypted one. It's literally unusable (or at least it was 1-2 years ago). It makes me wonder if there was some malicious intent behind it. Also, ever since Russia tried to block it people talk about some "encryption keys". Did you find anything about it while doing the research? Is it just a line being parroted by cluless people, or is there really some kind of weird encryption at rest on their servers?
I wonder what those eyes are seeing
