Trump pardons Silk Road dark web market creator Ross Ulbricht

Trump says he has signed a full and unconditional pardon for Ross Ulbricht, who operated Silk Road, the dark web marketplace where illegal drugs were sold.

"The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponisation of government against me," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social site on Tuesday. "He was given two life sentences, plus 40 years. Ridiculous!"

Assange cannot be pardoned anymore as he served his sentence and is now a free man. I am not disagreeing with you but Ulbricht and Snowden are completely unrelated cases. Snowden might have a chance in court but they barred him from using the public good defense, so he is not gonna face a fair trial. We shouldn't need a pardon to defend acts done in good faith for the public.

Well, it is outrageous to me how this person gets a pardon for his actions, but I'm yet to hear a word about Edward Snowden or Assange, but especially the former, who is immorally labeled a criminal for looking after the interests of the people and their rights to privacy.

And compared to IRL face to face deals where you might get stabbed or worse at any point.

Ross created a site where sellers and buyers could conduct business without government oversight. Yes there were illegal activities, bit all sales were limited to consenting adults. No coercion was allowed. Compared to many of today's dark websites where anything goes Ross' site was very very tame.

What Ross did was a crime and was convicted of it, so yeah Trump is pardoning a criminal. The question of the morality of his crimes is whether you are against any all consumption of substances by consenting adults.

Am I missing something by thinking that he is pardoning a criminal? What compels him and others who advocate for this decision, according to the article, to pardon him because his conviction was a government overreach? Ross is quoted saying that he wanted to empower people to make choices in their lives and have privacy and anonymity. But what is the point he is trying to make with this statement when he is operating a large criminal operation about selling drugs online? I haven't looked deeper into it and am not aware of any evidence pointing to his innocence.
