Get your piece of 35mm film here!

My latest video was shot completely on 35mm film, which is partly your fault for enabling my ridiculous video ideas. https://youtu.be/QYUE696k6GY

As such, you should receive your share of the film. If you are a Statistically Significant supporter or higher, I will automatically post your piece out to your address on Patreon.

For lower tiers, I still hugely appreciate your support but to avoid a lot of unwanted posting, please sign up if you'd like the physical film using this form: https://forms.gle/c6R42AE7JSnXSPh28

Finally, you paid for the film, you should get to see it all. The complete scan of every single frame is on the second channel. You'll notice it's not much longer than the main channel! For an extra odd experience, watch this extended version first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99ru8jtD7-4

Received my piece of film, thanks Matt and team! It's 11 frames at the 3:18 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYUE696k6GY&t=198s

I f*cking LOVE getting Matt Parker mail (it just arrived).

Juan Ferrer Meleiro

The piece of film made it here safely! The whole idea and execution of the video was superb, just have to say it again. Thank you!

CornetTheory

I was just saying to partner last night I wonder when I'll get this film, then as if Matt had overheard it arrived today! Really happy 😁 thank you!

Matthew Thomas

amazing video! Very interested in the piece of film, then it's time to learn about projection and make a projector for our makerspace to project it 😁

Marijn Pool

Us colorists are wondering, how was this film processed? Seems like you developed and scanned the negatives, but then... what about print? Did you use some kind of film print emulation LUT? Which one? Or a more custom approach? Also could we have, even if just a bit, of the original scans? πŸ‘‰πŸ‘ˆ

I've been a fan for years and I really love the idea of getting a glimpse into a non-digital world in which great films/movies were produced in quite some countries. At first only shot in black and white whithout any sound so that piano players had to be hired to play some music.

Armin Quast

Long time fan, I love all of your videos and this is such a cool thing to do!

CornetTheory

My son was born the same year as YouTube, and we have had a bedtime tradition of watching a curated list of creators for his entire life. Tonight is the evening before we drop him at campus to begins his college career, so it is only fitting to join the ranks of irrational supporters and claim a souvenir of this notable moment. Thanks Matt.

Craig Bonsignore

I was so close to going "Hey Matt I don't need one" and then read this comment... Too bad film ratios isn't in the book. Perfect thing to include for the Love Rectangle sequel though!

Origami Alice Zhang

I saw that! I wanted to ask for 2:37 where he just stares at the camera … wasting valuable film … because I'm old enough to remember when this was like money going down the drain … versus kids these days, screen-recording entire TV shows to their photos album for time shifting

Hi! Long time fan and engineer on the editing software you use (I recognize it!) :-D I worked directly on the lens flare and lens reflections features amongst my first tasks when I started, and I would love to beg or wheedle or bargain for a segment of film strip of flare, it would be above-average treasured. (Am already a statistically significant supporter!)

PeteyPak

"Please allow a while for your film to arrive. No, you may not request a specific scene." But, but... anamorphic? πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

Christian Leichsenring

I'm still trying to get the balance of sending things to people who want them, but not wasting things/postage on people who do not. If you don't have a postal address on Patreon then you'll definitely not be sent anything!

Matt Parker

I actually sent Alan the Intern a very rough early edit to watch a while ago. He was the correct amount of envious.

Matt Parker

This video felt almost Captain Dissolution-like. Albeit with slightly less snazzy special effects. Loved it!

Zveebo

I really enjoyed this video! I make 3D art in Blender as a hobby and always try to emulate film as much as possible because I really love the look of it. So it was fascinating learning more about it.

Irwan Clark

argh! I moved! time to update the things πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Same here. The best Patreon reward I can dream of is more, better videos.

Bartosz BΕ‚aszkiewicz

Wow! Matt, each of your recent videos has left me saying to myself "Wow! That was a great video!" I loved this one! I got serious 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes from the cut at 9:36... must be the film grainy-like texture and the stark white background that did it. The 16mm film also left me with some 1960s NASA archive footage vibes too. Great video. (Also just realized "footage" is an old film term.)

Aric

Woo! 🎞️

Adam Wishneusky

So... what portion of my Patreon contribution will go for postage?!? 🀨 You can keep mine, please recycle it responsibly. Thanks!!! ❀️

Dan Oberste

This video made me realize I was not already supporting you here, so fixed that oversight.

Justin Newnum

Loved the video. Loved watching the unedited version much better then the digital one. I felt more in the moment in the unedited version

Christopher Mayfield

Fun video! Happy to fund! Time to double check what tier I'm on. Lol

AngryPanda

What if we just increased our membership level in response to this post?

Be-Ankh-Ah

What a pleasant surprise

Andreas Pardeike

Same here, almost impulsively

Andreas Pardeike

This is episode is an absolutely stunning demonstration of film. As a film photography nerd I've never been more excited by a physical Patreon reward! Edit: CORRECTION: The video was partially shot on 16mm film

Patrick Kennedy

Time to make a bookmark out of it. If only there was a new book I could be reading to make use of the bookmark..

Andrew Weir

My Zoopraxiscope awaits.

Brent Bartlett

whoops filled it in anyway. Getting flashbacks to my physics teacher writing RTBQ on some of my answers. πŸ˜‚ I apologies for repeating the same mistake 15 years on.

CodingEntity

Thank you for the clarification, and I greatly enjoy your videos. :)

Garrett JustGarrett

You do not.I will send you the film automatically for β‰₯ Statistically Significant tiers.

Matt Parker

So just to make sure, if we're on the statistically significant tier we don't need to fill out the form? Apologies for the seemingly simple question, my brain has been acting weird today.
