The transition from authoritarian to "peer" with my parents was difficult and i did end up doing exactly what you said, putting them on ice for about 8 months. Things seemed to come around after that and we both ended up respecting eachother a lot more. Im glad i never lost my cool though or cursed them out. That would be so shameful. We just silently agree to not bring up the past lol
