Stones To Abbigale Remastered: Author's Prologue

I want to write it to be relatable and believable. I want you to care about the characters. The same plot points will occur but I will be changing character traits slightly, including more internal monologue and adding more dialogue that wasn't there before. This is also cus legal reasons and plagiarism. I can't promise the grammar will be better cus English, not first language, innit.
As it's been written from the perspective of a 16 year old boy, it's going to be a challenge. I'm used to complex writing in high fantasy settings where it makes sense to have great detail, quite flowery and sometimes poetic language with mature characters. Due to the setting and the age of the protagonist, I've dumbed myself down quite a lot. But it can't be worse than the original.
