Here are some of the changes I’ve made to these types of videos, let me know what you think.
Visuals: While my background is gorgeous (commission my artist) I don’t think it really fits the topic at hand, neither does my avatar (commission that artist too). I decided to use a looping gif because it’s simple and not too distracting. I also didn’t want to put too many images in front of my background because it’s beautiful and I felt bad for putting screenshots and such in front of it. This way I can make those images front and centre. I chose a pixel gif because it’s simple and does look nice. I don’t want to make the topic itself ✨aesthetic✨ so I chose an gif that could be applied to many things rather than gif with themes of horror or a thriller vibe. I have tried to find the original artist of the gif but it’s been posted so many times on so many sites it’s near impossible. I looked everywhere for gifs similar that are sourced from the artist and got nothing. If the original artist is out there: please let me know. I am happy to change the image or add credit. In the future I’ll likely commission an artist to make a totally brand new one to avoid this issue.
Audio: I have added some background music and chose music that adds to the listening experience. This is so it’s more engaging and easier to listen to as it was quite stale without. I didn’t want thriller or horror music to amp the drama nor did I want lofi or some weird ukulele that didn’t fit. I think the chosen music doesn’t make it theatrical or feel
out of place.
Language: I have censored certain words in the video. On screen the word that had been cut will be displayed on screen censored so you can read it, and they will also be in the CCs. I decided to cut them because I’m sick of using substitute words like “yeeting” and “shave” when talking about serious issues. I think it really takes away from the seriousness and makes it almost comical. I’m hoping the background music will also make the cuts less jarring. The censoring is because I want it to be monetised (though it’s still limited lmao). The first and most important reason is for exposure. Not everyone has access to Netflix to watch the recent Nth Room documentary and so this is a free version. However Youtube suppresses videos with limited ads. So in order for it to be seen, it needs to be monetised. Second and less important is money. I did work hard on this, particularly the editing which may surprise you to know took 4 hours to do. I do work hard on videos when researching, recording and editing as well as adding CCs myself. I’m well aware these types of videos generally don’t get monetised nor will my videos get a lot of views because I’m teeny tiny which is why it’s more of a secondary reason.
