Living a fulfilling life with Life Goals and Requests!

A good day to everybody! Jérémie here with this week’s Patreon post about some more live mode mechanics and features you’ll find when the game launches in Early Access this December! We’re still working hard on all aspects of the project, but things are really coming along nicely! As usual, this post is for Patrons only, so please, keep it where it belongs!

A Quick Note on Patreon Rewards Delivery

Before I start with the live mode mechanics, I just wanted to make a PSA about Patreon rewards. At this point in time, everyone that donated at least one month to the Hero or Legend tier should have gotten an email to claim the “name a random character or pet. If you have not gotten this email, please get in touch with us and send us a direct message on Patreon! We’ll resume and finish sending the “get recreated as a townie and “name an item in the game reward forms in the upcoming weeks, so please bear with us on that front. For more details regarding the different Patreon rewards, check out this page

And Now, Back to Our Scheduled Programming!

We’ve talked about Wants in the past, where characters will be able to react on their current emotions and decide what they want to do with them. For instance, a Sad Parafolk might work through their sadness by eating a cake, or watching TV, or just ignoring it and focusing on other emotions instead. These are quite short-term, will guide you if you want to find something to do immediately, but they don’t have lasting implications (they’ll get reset when you go to bed, for instance, unless you have one pinned).

Wants are something you can do quickly, they give a bit of personality experience to your character and they change based on your emotions.

On the other hand, Life Goals are something your Parafolks will carry with them for a while. I’m not yet ready to talk about how you will get Life Goals, but here’s the rundown! You will be able to select which Life Goals you want to tackle as your Para gets through their lives, so they are selected during gameplay (and not at character creation). Different Parafolks will have different Life Goals offered to them, so their personality will matter and we will be able to have a wide range of options as to what influences their choices.

Life Goals will take a bit more time to complete and they can have many sub-goals, like this one here. Please not that this interface is still a work-in-progress!

Life Goals are much longer-term than Wants, while a Want might get you to dance for 30 minutes (that’ll shake out anyone’s funk!), your Parafolk with an affinity for fitness might want to get 30 hours of dancing into their life, level up their dancing skill by 4 and level up their fitness knowledge to 3. Afterwards, you might be able to choose between focusing on dancing alone, getting a career in a dance-related occupation, or making a Dancing Buddy! Completing them will net you a large amount of Personality Experience as well.

Once you’ve completed a Life Goal, you might be offered others related to it. There’s a progression throughout a series of Life Goals for the same topic!

There’s a lot we can do with Life Goals and this is just scratching the surface, there are others related to romance, having children, getting a lot of money or building a big house, so I can’t wait to see what people think when they get their hands on that system!

Townie Requests

There are multiple request boards around town and they all share the same pool of requests, you’ll be able to use the closest one!

Requests are another thing you can use to direct your gameplay, and they are little things other Parafolks in town need done. This might be as simple as cooking a few meals for them, or spreading the word about something going on in town (via special together cards). You can accept these Requests by interacting with the bulletin board, or talking to the Parafolks in question. Completing them might increase your friendship with the Request giver, make you earn some money or gain other rewards!

What is Paul going to do with four Fly Agaric mushrooms? Mysterious... (Again, the UI is still a work-in-progress!)

Everyday, new townies requests are offered, and you’ll get different ones from different NPCs, so check the board from time to time and talk to your neighbors! Who knows what they’ll ask for.

That’s it for me this week! Hope you enjoyed what you’ve seen from these two new mechanics! There’s so much potential to build on top of these, it’s really exciting!

I really like this! I hope there will be options for all ages of Para. Like task do-able by kids, pre-teens and teens.

Lo dels taulers d'anuncis em sembla una idea estupenda per coneixer gent, com petites misions

Don't be too harsh with paralives. I saw that teenagers could order the same things as older people because I saw in one of the comments on social media that what was shown in the video was a bug that they were going to fix.

Okay, more on the actual post, I do like the idea of these quests, it will give our Paras something else to do with their free time. And it's good we can just go look for some on the board, instead of getting phone calls from strangers or something, which can become annoying when it happens too much, like it does with a certain other game with similar things!

I just watched that short little video on your site, where a teen boy and a elderly woman is standing outside, and it shows the boy order from his phone ( which he could only order flowers, which to me made no sense, if he could order that, shouldn't he be able to order a pizza too? ) but though the elderly woman can order lots of stuff, she can ONLY order by calling, which makes again no sense. From what others are saying teens can't really order much of anything apparently, but can do it without talking on the phone, as can every age after, except elderly, which again makes no sense. Some in the comments from a YouTube channel showing the clip, said it made sense, because elderly people have trouble seeing or have arthritis, so they might prefer to talk on the phone, rather then texting, but that isn't EVERY elderly person. I really don't want for my Para to become elderly and basically lose the RIGHT to order something with their phones, without talking on the phone, it again makes no sense. I also don't like that teens can ONLY order flowers by phone, but can't order say a pizza, like on what planet? I thought this game was going to be more realistic then The Sims, not even less then them. I mean as an older person myself, in my 50s, I don't really like that the Sims makes all elderly people be the same, like hunched over, having back problems, making weird sounds all the time, and their bodies being so out of shape. Since there are plenty elderly people I know who are as fit as they were when they were at least in the 30s, when they were very fit. But to assume that it would be normal for elderly Paras to not want to use text for anything all of a sudden, is to me just as bad, and it also makes me figure that they will also probably be all in the same shape too as in The Sims. Sure in the video its hard to tell whether she is hunched over like in the Sims, but it does make me wonder. I just think we should have a choice on whether we want them to be that way or not. But I also think the teens should be able to order more then flowers, I mean if anything, flowers is the thing they would be less likely to even ever order. Though I figure its so they can give them to a girlfriend or their mom or something, but they should be able to order at least a pizza, I mean they do that all the time in real life, so why not in a life simulation game? I have to say I am very disappointed in this, and I am sure I wont be the only one. Sure since most will be more into playing with the teens, they wont care so much about the limitations on the elderly Paras, but they will be with the teens, I am, I don't like either one!

I agree, but I wonder if it is a lot of extra work for them to post weekly like this?

I love the addition of a request board! It feels like a great way to interact with others and build a community. I would also love to see more built-in opportunities like that for interacting with other paras. It makes the gameplay so much more interesting than just making it up myself.

It's a bit too bad that the patreon will close as soon as the game releases. It would've been a nice way to financiate the free packs while keeping on showing us how games like this are made, which is super interesting ! Still I'm super excited about this release ✨️❤️
