It's important to understand what filler is....and I"m not one of these people who says DON'T WATCH THE FILLER...if you want to watch it....go for it....BUT you have to keep in mind what you're seeing....anime is usually made from Manga...and unlike most shows based on comics in other countries, In Japan the Anime is usually being made at the same time as the Manga. Because it is possible to tell the story much faster through a media like television vs one like comic books. the Anime usually ends up catching up with the Manga and they run out of story to animate....this is the purpose of filler....filler is written by the makers of the anime so they have something to put on the air to give the writers of the Manga time to write more of the story. This means that if you're watching a filler arc...even one that's well done like those in Naruto, there will be times when some details found in the filler don't exactly match up with plot points in the main story. So while it's fine to watch the filler, just try to remember that whatever you see in the filler...isn't part of the ACTUAL story and for purposes of the main story....DID NOT ACTUALLY HAPPEN. Otherwise, it can sometimes get confusing when some of the details don't match up remembering which thing actually happened in the main story line.
