Are you acquainted with the bizarre American tradition of Groundhog Day? On February 2, the groundhog (a medium-large burrowing rodent which hibernates during the winter) supposedly sticks his head out of his burrow and looks around. If he sees his shadow then he goes back inside to hibernate for six more weeks. This is supposed to somehow predict whether Spring will come early or late.
