Now there's the vestige of a foot there.
I need to get a respectable distance away from the joint before stuffing, because I don't want to be crocheting too close to the foam. It's awkward; you can't grip the material very well and you can't twist it so you wind up having to flip her or butt-scoot yourself around to work on the various sides. Most of these sections (all except the butt, in fact) are yarn tubes that are built up in continuous spirals. Each lap is stitched onto the previous one, around and around and around. You change the width by adding and subtracting stitches as you go. Her leg gets narrower gradually from the hip to the knee, then widens slightly around the calf, and resumes narrowing to the ankle. I made that heel by adding a whole bunch of stitches at one spot.
You can see the incision in the back of her calf which I will use to stuff the foam in (because the ankle hole would be way too small.) I won't be able to stitch that shut until the foot is finished though, because the red yarn is currently "busy" and I don't have a spare piece.
