No, the mousebabe has not taken religious vows. This is just what it looks like after a day of tying hair onto her head. Since the strands hang down, it makes the most sense to start at the bottom and work your way up. That way the stitches you need to reach are not obstructed.
I had a bag of crinkly black yarn which I intended to use for her hair. What makes the yarn crinkly? It has been crocheted into something before. This batch was from an earlier prototype which I unraveled and saved the materials for later re-use.
I got to this point and realized to my dismay that there was not going to be enough crinkly black to cover her entire head. I could pull black yarn from a new skein, but that would be straight, not crinkly. I thought the difference in texture would look wrong, so I dug into my stash of previously-used yarn to see if I had a crinkly color that would work. Out of the limited options I decided this would be best. If I do it deliberately (instead of just waiting til I actually run out of black) I hope I can make it look like she has gotten an unusual dye-job, and not like a mistake.
Fingers crossed - she might be finished tomorrow.
