2023-07-19 05:39:13 +0000 UTCThe "tricks" it pulls are far from benign though. Blackwood knew the secret technique of "not showing too much of the monster" because the Unknown is always scarier than a CG effect or a guy in a rubber suit.
2023-07-19 01:29:43 +0000 UTCAdorable! I love it. Thank you very much. I recently read Algernon Blackwood's 'The Wendigo' story. It's actually what prompted this request. I really enjoyed the story, but I was surprised by his portrayal of the wendigo as a vaguely defined trickster/nature spirit. Up until that point every depiction of the wendigo I'd ever seen portrayed them as cannibal demons. The very first time I'd even heard of a wendigo was a tv special of allegedly true stories covering cannibal cases from Canada during the frontier era.
