New features and a Merch Store

Hello everyone! I have a few pieces of news that I want to share.

Special Auctions

Special auctions are a new feature that can be used to handle “shadow drops”. Let’s say a game is announced on a Wednesday, for a Thursday release. Under normal rules, that game would not be selectable in Fantasy Critic, because it will be out before bids run on Saturday. With special auctions, your league can choose a game to be handled separately from normal bids.

So, let’s say that no one in your league has Hollow Knight: Silksong, and it’s announced tomorrow May 11th, and it’s coming out May 12th. Your league sets a special auction ending at 10PM in your time zone on May 11th. All players in the league can make normal bids for the game, and the bids process, for Hollow Knight only, at 10PM.

Super Drops

Super drops, sometimes called “the blue shell”, are another new feature. They are intended as a “catch up” mechanism. If your league turns this feature on, on September 1st, any player that has less than 65% of the projected points of the player with the most projected points will be given a super drop automatically. League managers can also manually give a player a super drop.

A super drop allows a player to drop any one of their games, immediately, no questions asked. Even if the game is already released, even if it's been counter picked, even if it is a counter pick. You also don't need to wait for the drop to process on Saturday, it happens immediately instead.

Merch Store and Live Stream

I’m launching a Fantasy Critic merch store this Saturday. Available products include T-Shirts, hoodies, and coffee mugs, all with Fantasy Critic branding.

To celebrate this launch, I will be live streaming on Twitch this Saturday at 1PM Eastern. Here’s where you come in. I’d like for people to suggest feature ideas for the site, and I will choose a few and implement them during the stream. Depending on how the stream is going, I may also play a game on stream after spending some time developing.
