Oh, wow. I had no idea that's how it was done in theaters! Yeah, I can see how it would have been annoying thinking there was going to be more differences than just the ending. It would have been cool if they'd had it throughout and then had 3 different movies you could buy when it came out on video. But this was still terrific, and you're absolutely right about Tim Curry. He could have easily won an award for that performance at the end! The movie wouldn't have been the same without him.

2024-03-30 16:29:53 +0000 UTCSo the deal with the ending on the theatrical release was each one only had one ending. The tag line in the advertisements "Who done it depends on where you see it!". Most theatres ended up posting whether you'd be seeing ending 1, 2, or 3. The all three endings was done when they released it on home video. I was actually annoyed with the way they did this, finding out it was just the ending that was different. From the ads I had assumed there were differences throughout the movie that pointed to that copy's killer. Tim Curry's performance during the explanations is fantastic.
