Fun With Shorts: Science and Superstition

In this week's short, a bunch of eight-year-olds grapple with the very nature of epistemology. And rabbits' feet.

Fun With Shorts: Science and Superstition

Comments

Bill, thanks for your thoughtful comments and your generous support. It is all greatly appreciated. In my view, all current events are ripe for silly references, and extreme ideologies are always ripe for parody, including both right and left wing extremities. I've always felt like MST3K and riffing culture in general are about celebrating fun and intelligence, regardless which way one leans politically. (Also, true story: I originally had "left wing propaganda" in my script for that moment, and changed it at the recording session.)

Josh Way

As someone who's right-leaning on some issues, I am mot offended by you at all, but am very offended by extreme-right-wing propaganda (and extreme-left-wing propaganda), as I am unhappy to be at all associated with them.

Bill Lemmond

Okay, listening again, I herd "right-wing propaganda." "Right-wing" isn't the same as "right-leaning," but I think you could have made your point more clearly by saying "extreme right wing" or "alt-right" - especially as they are the ones far more likely to engage in propaganda, anyway.

Bill Lemmond

... Okay, back up to $5 per month, from $2 per month. If I can break through the disability barrier and get a part-time job, I'll raise it some more.

Bill Lemmond

Hi, Josh, I'll watch this one again, but I don't think you went after anyone but the most extreme people on the right. I've voted ever since I've been old enough, in the early 1970s, and haven't missed even a special election. I've voted for more Republicans than Democrats, but not since the Republican party was largely taken over by extremists who view compromise as a sign of weakness (instead of a very American tradition of practicality). Either way, I'm going to bit the bullet and increase my own contribution. Sorry it won't be much, but I'll do what I can. I think this short, and your treatment of it, are very timely. By the way, I've always been very politically neutral, favoring positions o n issues all over the political map. I also tend to be moderate. So I'm not one of your more touchy viewers.

Bill Lemmond

Sorry to see you go, Mike. It's your money and your prerogative, of course. The odd thing is that I actually thought I was quite even-handed on this one considering the subject matter. My perspective in these shorts is never meant to be ideological or political, just silly. I always assume that references to current events will be taken in that spirit, just as they were on mst3k.

Josh Way

Oops, can't put a carriage return in, obviously. Okay, reason we're quitting is that this one is just a BIT too close to being liberal leaning for us. Again, don't mind fun on both sides, but the three comments here just weren't funny in any way and too much divisive for our tastes. I fully believe in voting with my wallet, so that's why I'm ending my support, but I also wish you the best of luck in all you do in the future.

Mike Kelley

I mean this in the most respectful way possible, Josh, because I am NOT into censorship in any way shape or form, and you've entertained my wife and I for a long time now, but we'll be ending our pledge due to this video.
