But now she sees me as the horrible monster who is threatening the life of her "child," her pet rabbit, Wookie. She has to take back some stuff from the container - her laptop, some things that belong to others - but she also regards me as having stolen a lot of her clothes, because she won't risk them, even if I could wash them to her exacting standards. God made me defective, and I'm really tired of so easily making colossal mistakes. Multiple untreated (and mostly undiagnosed) disabilities, all from the neck up, ruined my only other chance at happiness, back in winter 1977-78, when Gayle Oberkotter said "I love you." I was too stunned, still recalled how the only other girl ever associated with me was teased for it, and it would be another 6 or 7 years before I would stop thinking of myself as an awful person with a dark secret. This time, I thought I didn't have a choice, but I just wasn't thinking clearly. And Mili is still here, through the end of this month, probably. Until now, the sound of her made me happy. Now when I hear her I'm just more sad.
