2017-12-06 20:19:44 +0000 UTCJosh is one of the best riffers/riff writers [Hell, I’d even argue maybe the best SOLO Riffer Period - dude’s body of work speaks for itself honestly [if people would give em a chance] - writing for Rifftrax & ICWXP [took me many watches to go Hey, wait - Josh Way? That josh Wrote for this Season 2 Episode? Awesome] Later, it made sense - after watching a ton of Fun With Shorts and Fun with Flicks getting a feel for his style - I was like “I bet that riff, was a Josh riff - and pure speculation - the Zombie Spok / l33t rescues Rick segment - I get a Josh vibe from some of the writing, probably collaborative thing, or even more probable I might be wrong [“So keep in mind; Memory is Parallax...”-Buck 65] Just a feeling I when watching that episode and segment in particular. Also, he gets incrementally better with each riff IMHO - which is always a good thing. Exponential progression 8-) [I had a bunch more to say but, I saved it to notes as I’m sure it would be better suited for another thread/comment string lol] it was just a matter of time before I was like “I wonder whats up/or what happened to - clearly nothing - that Fun With Shorts project - proceeded to watch, laugh - then it grew on me as I started to get a feel for Josh’s style, laughed even more - now big fan. I probably would’ve checked out Fun with Shorts first, then ICWXP caught my eye - I was like “Man, this exists? Hell YEAH!” ICWXP had everything I wanted to see in one of those “MSTing” shows [and MSTies have the wild audacity to claim ICWXP is a rip off lmfao... MSTies invented the rip-off show! [I’d assume to fill a void left when the show was canceled - otherwise if you really wanted to make a creative riff project you’d come up with something original and innovative... MSTing’s were Z Grade xeroxes from the public library! KTMA Season 0 tier “bots” - like Beeper tier LOL & pretty lackluster to hit or miss... [in my experience - Id be pleased to see a decent/good one - maybe I missed out on the few out there] I was in aww, impressed of sheer production value (talkin S.1 Ep.2) and that includes Josh - not just audio quality but entertainment/comedy -because Ive heard the atrocious egregious quality of the MSTing videos (aswell as the writing lol) - and some of the iRiff program riffs done on what might of well of been the worst microphone in PC history. Im almost certain - it came with every Gateway PC [The Cowbox] Its pretty simple - get a broadcast mic [actually if you get the right kind - a shotgun dynamic mic, or just get the undisbuted RADIO broadcast microphone [I’ve never seen a professional radio station ie not college without one] Shure SM7B Dynamic - which material its made of acts like a dual Shock Mount, Shields from electromagnetic ‘bleeding’ in the signal - if you will [couldn’ think how to phrase that better] and Pop Filter [with two mic covers -a close talk fluffy one and the standard one that you always see] that alone saves you 60-70 bucks ish [not gonna factor EM interference cause to cover that you need to redo all your electrical wall sockets with a type of caulking/glue gun that shields the implicit leakage] a decent cheap preamp/powered mixer [so you can tweak levels, mix and add FX on the fly if doing say, a podcast] and an sE Reflection Filter Pro [or the SPACE version] - which acts as a portable diffusion Filter, recording set up, esp. for talk/less intense recording... Thus why Josh Way / Fun With Shorts - Agony Wolf Media - ICWXP/IGWXP are the exact opposite of rip offs -unlike the MSTing shows - even some just using the MST3k name....Their god tier in the Riffing game - period. [no, Im not including MST3K, Rifftrax, Mads R Back or the new era mst3k - imo josh and awm they’re on par if not better [consistently] but its not a fair comparison - one created the genre... Others, including the some alumni & fans turned creators that ended up expanding the craft - innovated in it and continue to... Congrats Josh man. That’s one helluva long time to be and stay around [and just goes to show, what perseverance can do, aswell as how far you’ve come from your earliest stuff to most recent. Cheers to 15 years, and another swig for 15 more years of snarky golden riffs.
