A Life Update, and a Little Advice
Added 2021-05-05 22:39:57 +0000 UTCHey, everyone, I took today off to spend time with MrsDM as today we’ve been together for 25 years. That’s long enough to become grandparents! At this point it’s very easy to imagine spending the rest of our lives together, and I guess it’s also long enough to give advice to new couples or single people. The most important thing I’d say in that regard is that your partner should be your best friend. I know the physical stuff will seem important in the beginning, but that will fade with time. Finances can come and go too. So, through all that, it should be someone you don’t just tolerate, but actually enjoy being around. Then, it’s easy. Some people say relationships are hard, but that just means they’re in the wrong relationships. I never understood the idea of “working on” a relationship. It should be as easy as a stroll in the park. That’s my experience anyway. It should be done because you want to, and not because you have to.
Bringing it back to the theme of my channel, neither my wife nor myself have ever been religious, so it’s always frustrating to hear religious people claim ownership of marriage. Yes, they may have institutionalized it, made it exclusive, and applied all kinds of traditions and norms to it, but they don’t get to claim the relationship the way they’d like to. There’s nothing religious about loving someone and wanting to share your lives together. So, if you’re in an interracial or LGBTQ relationship, there have been points in recent history when that would’ve been forbidden, thanks to silly stories about God that people used to justify bigotry. I’m truly sorry if you’ve had to deal with that, and I personally know some of you have. Hopefully those were speed bumps toward progress, and all that bullshit will be long behind us one day.
Other than taking the day off, I’m still always working on various ideas until something I like takes enough of a form for me to want to make it into a video. That’s just my process. Nothing is forced. I have to truly like it first. So, I will keep you updated when I have something more substantial to share. All my best!
