PROPAGANDA
Added 2022-11-28 23:46:40 +0000 UTCI've been wanting to make a video about propaganda for a while now. My main inspiration stems from how effective and pervasive propaganda has become online. If you have developed critical thinking skills, and maintained healthy skepticism, you can usually see through the tricks and will seek verification through other sources. A disturbing number of people, however, do not see through these tricks. My interest is not in telling people what to think, but how to think, and how to recognize tricks intended to mislead.
Some of the more common forms of modern propaganda include some or all of the following: Carefully curate anecdotes (good or bad). Remove context (leaving key info out of statistics or cutting out key portions of video). Poison the well with uncharitable interpretations (spin). Present the exceptions as the rule (cherry picking and nut picking, a major source of bigotry). Juxtapose them with your ideal (unrealistic comparisons).
What are your thoughts about such a project? I could do one long video covering everything, or perhaps many short videos that cover each type of propaganda. I could do a serious tone with real examples, or perhaps a more comedic one using animation. Can you think of any other types of common propaganda you've seen?
