We've Reached Our Second Pledge Goal!

A couple of years ago we reached our first major pledge goal which locked in weekly new episodes of Fun With Shorts and monthly exclusives. Thanks to some very generous new pledges and increases, we've reached our second goal! Here's the description of this goal from my main Patreon page:

"I'll riff a serial or series of shorts selected with the help of my patrons, exclusively for my patrons! These will be regularly scheduled shorts, but you will help me decide which series to riff and the videos will be Patreon-exclusive until they go to DVD. "

So now we just need to figure out what series I'm going to riff. I have three candidates ready to go (see below) but I'm willing to hear suggestions from the patron community as well before making a selection. I do have a few parameters for the new series, however. The individual episodes/shorts need to be:

-readily available to download (or rip from DVD)
-in the Public Domain (preferably with a Creative Commons license)
-relatively inoffensive (appropriate for teen viewers and older)
-around 15 minutes in length or shorter (I'm the only writer!)

Here are the three serials I am already considering:

Manhunt of Mystery Island (1945) - An evil pirate kidnaps a scientist. Stars Richard Bailey, Linda Stirling, and Roy Barcroft

The Return of Chandu (1934) - An evil cult on a mysterious island seeks to make a human sacrifice. Starring Bela Lugosi and Maria Alba

The Three Musketeers (1933) - No, not THOSE Musketeers. Action and intrigue in the Foreign Legion. Starring John Wayne, Jack Mulhall, and Raymond Hatton

I'll give you guys a chance to throw a few more titles into the mix, then I'll take it to the next phase.

Thanks once again to all Fun With Shorts patrons and to the pledges that made this possible!

Comments

Hopefully, we'll all live long enough for The SuperFriends" (DC sort of Justice League) cartoon series to enter public domain. Some serious absurdity, there.

As long as it's a good print, I'm fine with almost anything you choose.

I like the first one too. Sounds like some good adventure pulp. (Or whatever the equivalent of "pulp" is for film. Celluloid?)

I'll give it a couple more days for patrons to throw some titles into the mix, then I'll take a poll. And don't fret, if I don't choose a particular serial for the first go-around, I could always get to it later on.

I actually vote for the first one. Sounds different!

Wendi Grezlak

Gotta go with The Return of Chandu (1934) Bela and all that.

Mike Battle

I put in my vote for The Three Musketeers (1933)
